Wendy Williams is honoring the ultimate hot topic: herself.
The former talk show host, who was placed under a court-appointed guardianship in 2022, stepped out for a belated birthday celebration at Peter Luger Steakhouse in New York City July 20.
During the outing, Wendy, 61, flashed a wide grin as she donned a green and white patterned minidress, which she accessorized with a red leather handbag, a Gucci belt, large sunglasses and her signature silver “W” necklace. She was accompanied by her niece Alex Finnie as well as Alex’s partner Eric Houston for the family excursion.
Three days earlier, Wendy—who shares son Kevin Hunter Jr., 24, with ex-husband Kevin Hunter—enjoyed another evening out in the Big Apple as she walked arm-in-arm into Delmonico’s with former Wendy Williams Show producer Suzanne Bass. In a video obtained by TMZ, Wendy shared that for her birthday, she wished to be “out of guardianship.”
The TV star stepped away from her eponymous talk show in 2021 to treat a series of “ongoing medical issues,” with Sherri Shepherd stepping in to host the program until it concluded in 2022. Two years later, it was announced that Wendy was diagnosed with primary progressive aphasia and frontotemporal dementia, with her care team stating at the time that the conditions presented “significant hurdles in Wendy’s life.”
But Wendy has pushed back against the diagnoses, setting the record straight after being hospitalized in March. During a phone interview from the hospital with Good Day New York, she said she received mental competency tests during her stay and “passed with flying colors.”
Days later, Wendy called into The View to elaborate further on her situation, doubling down on her mental fitness.
“It was my choice to get an independent evaluation on my incapacitation, which I don’t have it,” she declared. “How dare they say I have incapacitation? I do not.”
