FKA Twigs is ready to move on.
Four years after the “cellophane” singer (real name Tahliah Debrett Barnett) filed a $10 million lawsuit against ex Shia LaBeouf, citing “relentless abuse” and alleging he had knowingly given her a sexually transmitted infection, she has filed to dismiss all of her claims with prejudice, according to documents obtained by E! News.
On July 21, per the documents, FKA Twigs’ lawyer Bryan Freedman filed to dismiss all of her prior claims in the Superior Court of California with prejudice—meaning she cannot refile—amid the former couple’s back and forth in proceedings.
“Committed to forging a constructive path forward, we have agreed to settle our case out of court,” Freedman said in a joint statement with LaBeouf’s attorney Shawn Holley. “While the details of the settlement will remain private, we wish each other personal happiness, professional success and peace in the future.”
The development comes after FKA Twigs, now 37, accused LaBeouf, 39, of emotional, physical and mental abuse amid their one-year relationship in 2019.
In the now-dismissed lawsuit that was previously obtained by E! News, FKA Twigs alleged that the early days of their relationship, which began after they met on the set of LaBeouf’s Honey Boy, included “over-the-top” displays of affection which initially gained her trust, before his behavior allegedly turned sporadic and abusive.
In an interview with the New York Times shortly after filing the lawsuit, FKA Twigs—who also stated in the lawsuit she planned to give a “significant portion” of anything she won in the battle to charity—said it was difficult for her to not only come forward, but to leave the relationship at all.
“I just thought to myself, no one is ever going to believe me,” FKA Twigs—who began dating boyfriend Jordan Hemingway in 2023—said at the time. “What I went through with Shia was the worst thing I've ever been through in the whole of my life. I don't think people would ever think that it would happen to me. But I think that's the thing. It can happen to anybody.”
LaBeouf’s legal team denied the allegations made by FKA Twigs in the lawsuit, filed in December 2020, on his behalf, although the Peanut Butter Falcon star also shared a statement of his own.
“I’m not in any position to tell anyone how my behavior made them feel,” he said in an email to the New York Times. “I have no excuses for my alcoholism or aggression, only rationalizations. I have been abusive to myself and everyone around me for years. I have a history of hurting the people closest to me. I’m ashamed of that history and am sorry to those I hurt. There is nothing else I can really say.”
Two years later, the Holes alum—who reconciled with ex-wife Mia Goth following their 2018 divorce—admitted that amid allegations made by Barnett as well as other exes, he had behaved poorly.
“I f--ked up bad,” he said during a 2022 appearance on Jon Bernthal’s Real Ones podcast. “Like crash and burn type s--t. Hurt a lot of people, and I’m fully aware of that.”
LaBeouf, who shares 3-year-old daughter Isabel with Goth, added, “I’m going to owe for the rest of my life.”
