Kourtney Kardashian was not taking no for an answer when it came to breastfeeding.
In fact, the Kardashians star celebrated 21 months of breastfeeding with her and Travis Barker’s son Rocky in honor of World Breastfeeding Week—despite her doctor previously telling her it might not be possible.
“I told my baby we would breastfeed when he was in my tummy every day after doctors told me he probably wouldn’t be able to breastfeed,” Kourtney wrote on her Instagram Stories August 8 alongside a photo of her feeding her 21-month-old on a boat. “I prayed about it and never believed it.”
“Blessed and grateful for this beautiful life and experience together with my baby,” she continued. “21 months and going strong.”
Last July, the 46-year-old expressed that she had no plans to stop nursing her youngest, adding that she hoped to continue breastfeeding for “at least a year.”
After all, that’s approximately how long she breastfed 10-year-old son Reign, who she shares with ex Scott Disick along with kids Mason, 15, and Penelope, 13.
"I did Reigny for a year," Kourtney said on her Hulu reality series at the time. "He started biting me."
Beyond breastfeeding, the reality star has shared insight into some of the other parenting practices she firmly stands behind.
“I think living authentically is not conforming, to whatever it is,” she said on the May 21 episode of sister Khloe Kardashian’s podcast Khloe in Wonderland. “I will like nurse the fever of my kids versus giving Tylenol or ibuprofen. I just want to do that.”
“Once I started therapy, I kind of started challenging the ways we did things sometimes, the way we all functioned,” she continued. “I love to just go against the grain.”
In addition to opting for more natural remedies when her kids are sick, she revealed that she holds baby Rocky for the entirety of his three to five hour naps to foster a stronger emotional bond.
“With attachment-style parenting, I hold him for his naps the whole time,” she explained. “He’s 23 pounds.”
“I’ll sit in our little chair in the room,” she continued. “I still have my little breastfeeding pillow and then he’ll lay on there, but my arm’s under, and then I have a little radiation blanket that I put over to protect from EMF from phone use.”
As for why she prefers such a nurturing parenting style? Well, she said she hopes to nurture his “secure attachment.”
“I think it’s really not separating for as much as possible in the first definitely three years,” she told her sister. “It’s kind of just what my instincts—I lean towards. It’s what they tell me to do, I feel like. Just my motherly instincts. Mother knows best.”
