Jamie Lynn Spears' daughter is addressing her near-death experience for the first time.
Eight years after Maddie Watson was briefly pinned underwater when the ATV she was driving crashed into a pond on her family's Louisiana property, the teen spoke out about the harrowing incident.
Describing herself as "injury-prone," Maddie said in an Aug. 12 YouTube video that detailed her childhood illnesses and injuries, "I did have an accident."
She continued, "I was in a coma and I came back to life, and I’m very blessed."
The 17-year-old added that she was "in and out of the hospital" and had "treatments all the time" during her younger days due to a variety of health struggles.
"I was very sick when I was really little," she shared. "I had bad asthma."
But throughout it all, Maddie persevered. As Jamie Lynn—who shares the high school senior with her ex Casey Aldridge—noted on Instagram shortly after Maddie's video, "You can work so hard, and do everything right, yet still face adversity, no matter what path you’re on in life."
"You can’t control everything that happens to you, but you can decide how you react to what happens to you," the Zoey 101 alum wrote. "I’m so proud of this kid, she never lets anything or anyone sit her down, and sharing her journey through it all hopefully inspires others to never stop going hard for what they want out of life."
That's why Jamie Lynn—who is also mom to daughter Ivey Watson, 7, with husband Jamie Watson—now considers every Feb. 5 since the ATV accident as her "Miracle Anniversary."
"Every year that passes and I watch my daughter grow up, the more I realize how very blessed we are, and never want to take that for granted," the 34-year-old wrote on Instagram in 2024. "Again, thank you to all the healthcare professionals who made the life saving decisions, and thank you to each and every person who prayed for our baby girl."
