Authorities are sharing an update on the Emmanuel Haro case.
The parents of the missing 7-month-old, Rebecca Haro and Jake Haro, were arrested Aug. 22 on a murder charge, the San Bernardino Sheriff Department confirmed.
"This morning, detectives from the Sheriff’s Homicide Detail and Specialized Enforcement Division arrested Jake and Rebecca Haro at their residence in Cabazon for PC 187 – Murder," the department's public information office said in a statement to E! News. "Investigators will continue their search for seven-month-old Emmanuel Haro."
The statement added, "Please follow our social media pages for updates."
E! News has reached out to lawyers for Rebecca and Jake and has yet to hear back.
The arrest comes just over a week after Rebecca first reported Emmanuel's supposed kidnapping from a local a Big 5 Sporting Goods store parking lot in Yucaipa, about 70 miles east of Los Angeles, on Aug. 14. Two days later, authorities announced that they weren't ruling out foul play due to "inconsistencies" found in the mother's testimony.
"Deputies in Yucaipa were dispatched to a retail business after Rebecca Haro reported that while she stood outside her vehicle, changing her child's diaper, she was physically assaulted by an unknown male and rendered unconscious," police shared in an Aug. 16 press release. "When she awoke, her 7-month-old infant, Emmanuel Haro, was gone."
"Investigators interviewed multiple individuals, including Emmanuel's parents Jake and Rebecca Haro," the statement continued. "During those interviews, Rebecca was confronted with inconsistencies in her initial statement and declined to continue with the interview."
Meanwhile, authorities also confirmed on Aug. 20 that they had seized Jake's car as part of their ongoing investigation around Emmanuel's disappearance.
For Rebecca's part, she told ABC7 that she was at a park for her son's football practice with her husband and their two other kids. She drove to Big 5 Sporting Goods to purchase a mouthguard for her son at the time of the incident.
"I got him out of the car seat and I laid him down so I could get his diapers ready," she said of Emmanuel to the outlet on Aug. 15. "Somebody said 'Hola' and that's all I remember. I saw white and I fell on the floor and I said as I got up that I couldn't find my son."
Rebecca, who had a black eye during the interview, added, "I checked all around my truck and I ran into Big 5. I asked the lady if she saw a baby. She said no."
Meanwhile, Jake pleaded for Emmanuel's safe return.
"He was a happy baby," he said. "He was crawling. He was kicking. He was playing with his toys. Whoever took our son, please give him back."
As authorities investigated his son's disappearance, a closer look at Jake's past revealed a June 2023 felony conviction for child cruelty from a 2018 arrest, according to Riverside County Superior Court records obtained by The Orange County Register. He was sentenced to 180 days in jail and 48 months of probation.
