Watch: Alex Warren Makes TMI Confession After MTV VMAs 2025 Win

Alex Warren’s initial reaction to his Best New Artist win was out of the ordinary.

After the “Carry You Home” singer bested The Marías, Lola Young, Gigi Perez, Emma Langley and Sombr for the MTV Video Music Award nod, he shared an extremely candid confession.

“I don't even know what to say to you right now,” Alex admitted to Nessa during the MTV broadcast after winning the Moon Person. “I pooped twice today. I might go for a third. I'm about to cry.”

Despite the win causing more than just butterflies, the 24-year-old emphasized, “This is amazing. Thank you so much!”

Alex, whose song “Ordinary” was a de facto song of the summer for topping the Billboard Hot 100 chart for 14 weeks, certainly didn’t think his song’s success gave him a leg up. After all, he made a video just days before the MTV VMAs to the viral “fish girl” sound effect, in which a girl says, “I know I’m going to be out, just vote.”

Over the TikTok video, Alex—who was also nominated for Song of the Year and Best Pop Artist—emphasized the competitive categories writing, “When I’m nominated for three VMAs but I’m okay losing to the pop girlies.”

And Alex wasn’t the only pop star to be floored by his unexpected win. After all, Rosé, who won Song of the Year for her and Bruno Mars’ “APT,” was equally surprised by her good fortune.

“This is a really big moment for 16-year-old me and anyone else who has dreamed of being accepted equally for their hard work,” the BlackPink member said while accepting her Moon Person. “As my therapist tells me to do every day, I’d like to thank myself for not giving up even in the toughest of times.”

And though her collaborator was not present at the ceremony, Rosé gave a special shoutout to the “That’s What I Like” singer.

“Thank you so much, Bruno,” she gushed. “I can’t believe this. I’m gonna call you after, thank you so much for believing in me.”
