Lewis Hamilton is sharing a difficult update on a beloved family member.
The Formula One driver’s 12-year-old bulldog Roscoe has been battling pneumonia—and as the pet’s health worsens, Lewis is asking fans for support.
“Please keep Roscoe in your thoughts,” he wrote on Instagram Sept. 26. “Roscoe caught pneumonia again and was struggling to breathe. He was admitted into hospital and sedated to calm him while they did checks on him and during the process his heart stopped. They managed to get a heartbeat back and now he’s in a coma.”
Lewis continued, “We don’t know whether he will wake from this. Tomorrow we’ll try to wake him up. I’m by his side and want to thank you all for your prayers and support.”
Along with the Ferrari driver ’s heart-wrenching note were photos of Roscoe in the hospital, with the bulldog hooked up to oxygen as Lewis sat by his side.
Over the years, Roscoe has become famous in his own right, acting as Lewis’ constant companion as the 40-year-old traveled the world. Plus, Roscoe has starred in commercials and made an appearance in the recent F1 movie. Not to mention, Roscoe has over 1 million followers on Instagram.
“He is the kindest, such a sweetheart,” Lewis raved to Vogue in August. “Anyone can approach him from anywhere. He has never attacked anyone ever. He’s super, super easy. He doesn’t go crazy around other dogs. He’s just probably the most mellow dog there is, really, until he sees a bowling ball or football.”
Until he sees a ball—or his dad’s luxury goods.
“He likes fancy, fancy sneakers,” Lewis joked. “He picks up my Dior trainers and always takes them with him. He’s so bougie.”
But he also enjoys the simpler moments, too.
“I went to the movies with him a couple of times,” Lewis explained. “The first time I went was to watch Guardians of the Galaxy. It was just him and me. It was 3D, and he sat on the chair next to me, and I put 3D glasses on him, and he sat there watching it for five minutes, and I just couldn’t stop laughing. I couldn’t focus on the movie. He’s just sitting there, he’s watching.”
He continued, “You could tell he is so confused. And then he passed out on the chair, and he was snoring the whole movie. And everyone in the theater was laughing because you could hear him snoring loud.”
