Louis Tomlinson has a whole lot of history with Zayn Malik.

That's why the One Direction singer didn't necessarily shut down the speculation he and his former bandmate, who left the group in 2015, are reuniting for a new project.

"I heard that," Louis coyly said of the rumors in a recent iHeartRadio interview. "I thought that was pretty interesting, pretty astute."

The 33-year-old—who was joined by Zayn, 32, during a recent night out in New York City—added, "I just supposed they'd have to wait and see."

Louis' cryptic answer comes after multiple outlets reported that he and Zayn, 32, struck a multi-million deal with Netflix to film a documentary in which they travel across the United States.

E! News has reached out to Zayn's rep and Netflix for comment but hasn't heard back.

And the duo have certainly seen fair share of ups and downs together. Shortly after Zayn departed from 1D, Louis lashed out at his fellow The X Factor alum in a heated social media exchange.

By 2022, their fractured friendship appeared to have slightly mended, though Louis bluntly said after he was questioned about where he stood with Zayn, "You'd have to ask him."

"There's been numerous times over the last couple of years where I've thought about him and hoped he's alright," the All of Those Voices star told The Zach Sang Show, explaining that he "tried to get in touch" with Zayn several times. "But it's hard. I definitely wish him well."

Eventually, Louis and Zayn did cross paths again—albeit amid tragedy. In November 2024, they joined Harry Styles and Niall Horan at a London funeral for bandmate Liam Payne, who died at 31 a month prior after falling from the third floor of a hotel in Argentina.

In the wake of Liam's tragic death, the band also released a rare joint statement mourning the loss.

“We’re completely devastated by the news of Liam’s passing," Zayn, Louis, Harry and Niall shared in an October 2024 Instagram post. “The memories we shared with him will be treasured forever."

The foursome added, "We will miss him terribly. We love you Liam."
