An ultimatum wasn’t enough to save this reality show.
The Ultimatum: Queer Love has been canceled after two seasons on Netflix, according to multiple outlets.
The dating show, which was hosted by Reba alum JoAnna Garcia Swisher, launched in 2023 as a spinoff of The Ultimatum: Marry of Move On. Its premise involved following same-sex and nonbinary couples on the verge of getting married as they explored new romantic prospects, forcing them to decide whether to get engaged, move forward with a new connection or leave the experiment single.
While Queer Love won’t return for season three, Marry or Move On was renewed for season four earlier this year. The franchise has also expanded to include international iterations in France and South Africa.
E! News has reached out to Netflix for comment but has not heard back.
Season two of Queer Love, which debuted on the streaming service in June, introduced six sets of partners with no shortage of domestic drama. Take Britney and AJ, for instance, who put their love on the line as they contemplated taking their relationship to the next level.
“I don’t want to waste any more time,” Britney said after issuing her girlfriend the ultimatum. “You’re it, let’s do this. Either you want to marry me or you don’t.”
Although the show’s dating process involved temporarily living with a “trial wife,” the pair secretly met up off-camera before their trial marriages began—not once, but twice.
“The first time that I saw [AJ], honestly, I was just angry,” Britney said in an interview with E! News’ Francesca Amiker. “I was just letting out all the emotions that I've been holding in throughout dating week and not being able to see her... I was crying, I was yelling.”
But the pair eventually realized that they needed to take the experiment seriously to truly put their love to the test.
“I really was like, ‘We’re not going to gain anything if we continue to try to make this bond outside of our trial marriages,’” AJ told E!. “‘If we are meant to be together, then we will be. If we're not, then we will grow as people, and we will gain so much more experience and life out of this than you would in a normal experience.’”
Fortunately for them, the challenge proved to be worthwhile, resulting in AJ proposing during the final ultimatum.
“You are truly everything I prayed for and more,” Britney wrote in a post on Instagram celebrating her and AJ’s engagement. “I love you endlessly.”
