Warning: This article contains major spoilers from the first six episodes of Love Is Blind season nine.
Breaking up is hard to do—especially on TV.
During the first set of episodes of Love Is Blind season nine, viewers watched Denver residents Patrick Suzuki and Kacie McIntosh’s connection unfold in the pods, resulting in the two getting engaged without ever laying eyes on one another.
But their courtship took a turn almost immediately after the two met face-to-face, with Kacie, 34, later citing a lack of physical attraction for the breakup.
“He’s not a bad-looking guy in any sense, but he deserves somebody that is so obsessed with him,” the hair and makeup artist said in a confessional interview during episode six. “I just, unfortunately, don’t think my attraction to him is gonna grow that much, and it sucks.
As for Patrick, 31, he was left “completely blindsided” as he questioned his ex’s intentions for being part of the dating experiment.
“I had a range of thoughts,” he told People in an interview published Oct. 3. “Is it because I'm ugly? Is it because I'm not cool? Is it because I'm too much? Is it because she already had a boyfriend? Is it because she wanted to be famous?”
While watching the episodes helped Patrick gain clarity on the situation, he admitted that dealing with the split was “pretty tough.”
“It took me many months of travel, many months of therapy and stuff like that,” he continued. “The closure, I figured out pretty quickly. The healing part was the hard part. And then after watching it... I guess it did help a little bit.”
Despite the drama, the construction manager—who detailed his insecurities around dating as an Asian man in a largely white community—said he was grateful for his experience with Kacie.
“It definitely cleaned up a lot of insecurities,” he told Tudum in an interview published Oct. 1. “I wouldn’t have [done that] without Kacie. Going through the reveal really helped me break free from everything that I've been dealing with for many, many years.”
New episodes of Love Is Blind drop on Netflix Oct. 8. In the meantime, keep scrolling for more on the season nine cast.
