Watch: Ja Rule Is Going to Be a Grandfather, Daughter Brittney Atkins Expecting First Baby

Ja Rule is always on time for his loved ones.

After all, he’s eager to make memories with his growing family. The “What’s Luv” rapper announced that his daughter Brittney Aitken and her husband Tevin Aitken are expecting their first baby.

“I’m about to be a grandfather,” Ja Rule (born Jeffrey Bruce Atkins) said during his Oct. 16 appearance on Sherri Shepherd’s talk show, joking that his new familial title “doesn’t even sound right.”

The 49-year-old then shared the “very cute” way Brittney told him and his wife Aisha Atkins—with whom he also shares sons Jeffrey Atkins Jr., 25, and Jordan Atkins, 20—the sweet news.

“She put the sonogram in a box and a card that said, ‘You are now a grandma and grandfather,’” he explained. “She said, ‘I got a gift for you guys.’ And we thought it was a real gift—I mean that is a real gift, don’t get me wrong! But we go and open it up, and she has the camera on me to see me and my wife’s expressions. It was an amazing moment.”

Ja Rule Still Thinks the Fyre Festival Was an "Amazing Idea"

And now that he’s preparing to be a grandfather, the Fyre Festival co-founder has already picked out his new nickname: “Big Poppa,” a nod to the late Notorious B.I.G.’s iconic 1994 single of the same name.

This touching announcement comes months after Brittney and Tevin tied the knot in a Great Gatsby-inspired wedding in March. At the time, the duo—who got engaged in September 2023—held their intimate ceremony at the Villa Barone Hilltop Manor in New York. And true to their union’s theme, Brittney wore a stunning white gown and a pearl, flapper-styled headpiece.

“It is definitely a dream come true to be able to marry your best friend, someone not to just love but laugh and grow old with,” Brittney told People that month. “We honestly just wanted to make sure the room was full of love to see us showcase ours.”

After all, she’s confident that she’s found the love of her life.

“[We] always make sure we see eye to eye in the end, even if that means to agree to disagree,” she continued. “We admire both of each other's passion and light in different things, we add to each other and teach each other new things all the time.
