The music community has lost a legend.

Ace Frehley—lead guitarist, vocalist and founding member of KISS—has died, his family confirmed to multiple outlets Oct. 16. He was 74.

"We are completely devastated and heartbroken," read his family's statement to the outlet. "In his last moments, we were fortunate enough to have been able to surround him with loving, caring, peaceful words, thoughts, prayers and intentions as he left this earth. We cherish all of his finest memories, his laughter, and celebrate his strengths and kindness that he bestowed upon others."

Frehley's loved ones went on to reflect on his lasting impact, saying, "The magnitude of his passing is of epic proportions, and beyond comprehension."

"Reflecting on all of his incredible life achievements," the statement added, "Ace’s memory will continue to live on forever!"

E! News reached out to Frehley's management for comment but has not heard back.

Weeks before his passing, Frehley canceled the remainder of his 2025 tour dates "due to some ongoing medical issues."

The decision was made after his team shared that the rocker had suffered a "minor fall in his studio," which landed him in the hospital.

"He is fine, but against his wishes, his doctor insists that he refrain from travel at this time," read a statement shared to his Instagram Sept. 25. "As a result, he is forced to cancel his performance at the Antelope Valley Fair in Lancaster, California on Friday, September 26th."

And while Frehley faced a challenging health battle leading up to his tragic passing, he was also making strides in his career.

In fact, in addition to his 2025 tour dates, the instrumentalist had been working on his next solo album Origins Vol. 4

Of course, Frehley—who released 11 albums under both his real name and his stage name Spaceman—didn't just make impressive contributions to music as a solo artist.

As a member of KISS—which he formed alongside fellow founding bandmates Gene Simmons, Paul Stanley and Peter Criss—he produced hits including "I Was Made For Lovin' You," "Rock and Roll All Nite" and "Detroit Rock City," as well as released 14 Platinum-selling albums.

In 2014, the face-painting band's original members—who split in the early '80s and last performed all together in 2000—were inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.

"It’s like we had never been apart and we’re brothers in rock’n’roll," Frehley told Billboard in 2014 of reuniting to accept the honor. "The press builds this enigma that we hate each other and all that kind of insanity but it’s really not true.”

Frehley is survived by his 45-year-old daughter Monique Frehley, who he shares with ex Jeanette Trerotola
