Watch: Jeff Probst Weighs in on Possibility of a ‘Golden Survivor’ Season

Jeff Probst couldn’t outplay this steamy obstacle.

During Survivor’s Oct. 29 episode, the longtime host was seen doubling over as the Fijian sun blazed down on him and the season 49 castaways.

“The island where that challenge took place is the single hottest spot we ever shoot in Fiji,” the 63-year-old explained during the Oct. 30 episode of his On Fire podcast. “It might be the hottest spot in all of Fiji and I don’t know why. I’ve asked people on our team and I never get a good answer. But I’m sure there’s somebody listening right now saying, ‘It’s a basic barometric pressure.’”

“It’s like you’re in a sauna and someone is pouring more water on the coals,” Jeff told cohosts Jay Wolff and Jeremy Collins. “I’m not exaggerating.”

Indeed, Fiji’s sweltering heat had the longtime host gasping for air in the season 49 episode. And as he hunched over and tried to catch his breath, other contestants checked in on him.

Secrets You Might Not Know About Survivor

“Jeff, you out of breath, too?” Rizo Velovic, 25, teased after completing the challenge, to which Jeff replied, “It’s no joke, man!”

Though the CBS series has filmed at the island country since 2016, the host noted that he and the team still aren’t accustomed to the scorching weather.

“It’s beautiful skies, the wind is blowing your hair back, you feel amazing,” he continued on the podcast. “And then you step off the boat and walk into this dense forest. The cliche is, everybody says, ‘Man, it’s so hot today.’ And we all know we say it, and we all try not to say it. And then you walk in and go, ‘But my God, it’s hot! It’s so hot again today!’”

But Jeff wasn’t the only person who struggled to beat the heat. In fact, castaway Kristina Mills was examined by the medical team after she had difficulty breathing due to the weather—though she was later cleared to continue in the competition.

And while a concerning moment, Jeff noted that their medical team will always put the players’ health and safety over the difficult challenges.

“Our medical department has all of their emergency bags right there literally [filled] with band aids to a defibrillator,” he explained. “They have their own way of watching the challenge, too. Because they’re not just watching the drama for the challenge, they’re watching the players’ actions. They’re making sure that everyone is OK.”
