Julia Fox says she was trying to pay proper homage to Jacqueline Kennedy

The Uncut Gems star attended Julio Torres’ “The Cursed Amulet” Halloween party on Oct. 30 dressed as the former first lady on the day her husband President John F. Kennedy was assassinated in 1963—complete with bloodstained clothing.

And while she was immediately met with backlash, with many calling out the recreated look for being insensitive, Julia stood her ground and explained why it was meant to honor the icon.

“I’m dressed as Jackie Kennedy in the pink suit,” Julia explained in an Oct. 31 Instagram post alongside photos of her look. “Not as a costume, but as a statement. When her husband was assassinated, she refused to change out of her bloodstained clothes, saying, ‘I want them to see what they’ve done.’”

Indeed, the 35-year-old—who shares son Valentino, 4, with ex Peter Artemiev—called the move by the first lady “one of the most haunting juxtapositions in modern history.”

“Beauty and horror,” Julia continued. “Poise and devastation. Her decision not to change clothes, even after being encouraged to, was an act of extraordinary bravery.”

The model considered Jackie’s decision to remain in her clothes following the assassination a “performance, protest and mourning all at once.”

“A woman weaponizing image and grace to expose brutality,” Julia surmised. “It’s about trauma, power, and how femininity itself is a form of resistance. Long live Jackie O.”

Despite Julia’s intentions, Jack Schlossberg—the grandson of JFK and Jackie O.—called her out in his own post.

“Julia Fox glorifying political violence is disgusting, desperate and dangerous,” Jack wrote in an Oct. 31 post on X. “I’m sure her late grandmother would agree.”

But while stars like Julia attempted to make a statement, other celebrities like Demi Lovato used the holiday to indulge in nostalgia. After all, the “Heart Attack” singer dressed as the 2015 “Poot Lovato” internet meme—an edited photo of her that circulated the internet at the time, with fans theorizing it was her long lost sister.

“Been so locked in this era,” Demi wrote on Instagram Oct. 30 alongside several photos of her as Poot, “thought i’d let pootvato out.”
