Timothée Chalamet’s family plans aren’t a complete unknown.
While the 29-year-old—whose girlfriend Kylie Jenner is mom to two—doesn’t know exactly where the course of his life will take him, becoming a father currently exists as an item on his bucket list.
As he put it to Vogue in an interview published Nov. 6, “That could be on the radar.”
But despite the coy answer, Timothée, who these days is an uncle to sister Pauline Chalamet’s 14-month-old, was much clearer where he stands elsewhere in the conversation.
Recounting watching an interview of an unnamed celebrity “bragging about not having kids and how much time it afforded them to do other stuff,” the Dune star said he and his friend turned to each other like, “‘Holy s--t. Oh my God. Bleak.’”
And while, per the interviewer, Timothée knows some are unable to have children, he feels procreation is a reason of humans’ existence.
But for any fans hoping for insight into his and Kylie’s life together—not to mention his dynamic with her kids Stormi Webster, 7, and Aire Webster, 3, with ex Travis Scott—the 29-year-old remained tightlipped on their relationship.
“I don’t say that with any fear,” he said of drawing a line on his personal life. “I just don’t have anything to say.”
The concept of love is, however, a sticking point in his mind—so much so that he still thinks about the parents of an old schoolmate.
“I had a friend of mine in school—a girl named Grace—and her parents had the most beautiful, amazing marriage,” he said. “It showed me excellence can exist without it being arduous.”
It’s an example of how Timothée is learning that reaching the pinnacle of his craft—a goal he has been candid about wanting to achieve—does not mean sacrificing his personal life. He cited Dune director Denis Villenueve as an example.
“I’m just amazed by him. It was his birthday,” Timothée recalled, “and one of his kids flew themselves out as a surprise, and he’s hugging him, and he’s weeping on set, and people are taking videos. Denis is a total master of his craft, and he’s a great family man.”
But while Timothée has turned his admiration outward when it comes to success in love, others are looking at him. In fact, his Marty Supreme costar Gwyneth Paltrow recently expressed her admiration for his and Kylie’s relationship after learning they were dating on the film’s set.
“I was like, ‘Do you have a girlfriend?’” she recalled in an interview with British Vogue published Oct. 15. “And he was like, ‘I do.’ He mentioned that she had kids and I was like, ‘That’s so cool. I really love to hear that [from] a young man like you.’”
“I understand a 45-year-old who has his own kids going out with a woman with kids, but it’s a cool choice to go out with a young woman who has two kids,” Gwyneth added. "I respect it. I think it’s kind of punk rock.”
