Peter Dinklage is ready to call “bulls--t.”
E! News learned on Nov. 13 that Poker Face would not be returning to Peacock following two seasons. And now, it's been revealed that the Game of Thrones alum has signed on to play the lead role of Charlie Cale on the murder-mystery series, which previously saw Natasha Lyonne in the same role, according to multiple outlets.
With the new iteration, Natasha—who also serves as an executive producer on the series—and creator Rian Johnson hope to partner with a different network on a two-season commitment with the mindset to rotate a different actor into the lead role every two seasons, per The Hollywood Reporter.
The pair have also vocalized their dedication to the comedy series.
“We’ve been germinating this next move together since writing the season two finale,” Natasha and Rian shared in a joint Nov. 13 statement with Deadline. “We love our Poker Face and this is the perfect way to keep it rolling.”
They added, “Give us a beat and we may just see Charlie Cale again down that open highway.”
Across its two-season run, Poker Face garnered six Emmy nominations and one win for Judith Light’s season one guest role. The series also featured a star-studded list of guest actors, including John Mulaney, Kumail Nanjiani, Justin Theroux and Wicked’s Cynthia Erivo, who earned an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Guest Actress this year for portraying sextuplets in a season two episode.
Ahead of the show’s cancelation, Natasha detailed her excitement when she first read the pilot script, but alluded to the difficulty of initially getting the show off the ground.
“I was doing backflips when I read it,” she told Variety in May. “I expected all the networks to feel the same, but a lot of people were scared by the idea that it wouldn’t be a completely serialized storyline.”
But regardless of if Charlie Cale will return to TV screens in some capacity, Natasha’s experience working with Rian on the show has been a thrill.
“It’s always really fun to be part of something from inception,” she told Dazed in a May interview, “whether it’s as early as Rian and I just getting together to think on what kind of a show might be fun to make together.”
While waiting to see if Poker Face will return for a third season, read on to learn the fate of other TV shows.
