Tom Hanks is making a list, but it’s Rita Wilson who will be checking it twice.
Ahead of the holidays, the “Songbird” singer detailed how she and her husband spent the season alongside their kids Chet Hanks, 35, and Truman Hanks, 29.
“My husband is really big on stocking stuffers,” Rita told E! News’ Will Marfuggi at the Governors Awards in Los Angeles Nov. 16. “We always look to see what he’s going to do and I’m like, ‘I don’t need any more pens.’ He’s a pen freak. He’s very interested in little tech things.”
Meanwhile, Rita isn’t as plugged in as Tom—also dad to Colin, 47, and E.A., 43, with late ex Samantha Lewes—when it comes to gift-giving, admitting she mostly relies on online gift guides, adding, “I try to find things in there, but it’s super fun.”
Of course, Rita has no trouble conjuring up the perfect means of celebrating. The Now and Then star just celebrated her 69th birthday last month, noting it was “fantastic.”
As to how she marked the special occasion?
“Just a wonderful, cozy beautiful dinner,” she added, “with family and friends.”
Indeed, both Tom, also 69, and Rita have emphasized that they are perfect compliments to each other when it comes to keeping traditions alive and raising their family. As he told E! News last year, “finding each other” is the couple’s biggest secret to a successful marriage.
The Polar Express star has also noted that the couples’ success—professionally or in their philanthropic efforts—comes from each other’s involvement.
“Periodically this lady sits me down,” he added to E! “We pull out the books. We look at the year. We ponder the work that's gotta get done.”
Of course, Rita is also right by Tom’s side whether it comes to planning the future, or celebrating his past success.
“Everybody's got ups and downs, but when the time comes around and we get to celebrate something—particularly his body of work—I think it's wonderful,” she told E! News ahead of Tom accepting the Cecil B. de Mille Award at the Golden Globes in 2020. “It's wonderful for Tom and it's wonderful for our family.”
