Training camp is coming to an end—but not before one final test of character.
Five celebrities made it to the season four finale of Special Forces: World's Toughest Test on Nov. 20, however, only two successfully completed the grueling Fox reality competition.
On day nine of the challenge, Gia Giudice, Kody Brown, Brianna "Chickenfry" LaPaglia, Shawn Johnson and Andrew East were subjected to a brutal mock interrogation to test their mental and psychological fortitude after being "captured" by enemy forces.
As directing staff member Jason "Foxy" Fox warned of the final leg of the journey, "It's the last place you want to be, apart from death."
To be able to pass the test, Foxy explained, "The interrogators mission is to extract valuable information. The recruits, their mission is to keep that information to themselves, but at the same time build rapport. It's a very difficult game to play."
Although the recruits prepared fake stories to tell their captors, some celebs were better at holding strong under pressure—especially when the interrogators turned to physical punishments as a way to get them to crack under pressure.
Kody and Brianna were stressed tested by pouring buckets of water on their heads as they endured verbal questioning while Gia, Andrew and Shawn were repeatedly submerged entirely under water as mock torture.
While Shawn remained solid, the directing staff called out her husband Andrew's performance as "abysmal."
As Foxy noted, "If a recruit can't grasp the situation they're in and adapt to it, they're not going to do well on this phase. They're going to fail it."
That's when Andrew's journey in the competition ended.
Rodolfo "Rudy" Reyes informed the retired NFL star, "11, you did not apply the tactics and the training that was explained to you for this portion of the course. For that reason, you have failed the course. Give me your armband."
However, Rudy praised the athlete by adding, "You did really good to get this far. It's f--king hard isn't it? Keep your head up."
In a confessional, Andrew reflected of his accomplishments, "What a ride it was. Learned a lot. I'm bummed that I didn't pass selection but I didn't fully understand the situation. I did not voluntarily withdraw myself, so I can rest easy knowing I gave it all I had. No doubt Shawn will make it 'til the end."
Kody's performance in the challenge was also under scrutiny with Foxy noting, "He knows what he needs to do but he's not willing to do it."
After removing the Sister Wives star from the group, Rudy took Kody's armband and told the father of 18, "Alright No. 4, we gave you opportunities and you just did not apply what was briefed to you. You shut down."
The moment was bittersweet for Kody, who shared in a confessional, "The withdrawal was very heartbreaking, but 100 percent I agree with it. In the end, the level of stress just made it so that I shut down to a stubbornness. I feel relief that I made it this far and disappointment that I didn't make it farther."
With just three recruits left, Gia, Brianna and Shawn faced the final and most frightening test: Being buried alive without confessing they were military recruits. But as Brianna lied down in the mud, she cracked and told the staff, "I lied. I'm here with Special Forces."
With only 10 minutes left in the selection process, Brianna was out, meaning only Gia and Shawn successfully completed season four training camp.
The success was surreal for the women, especially The Real Housewives of New Jersey alum.
"Shawn and I are going to be bonded for life," a proud Gia reflected in a confessional. "We completed selection. I truly didn't think I was going to be able to do it. I knew I had to persevere and push through for myself and my family and also, most importantly, the DS [directing staff] because they really believed in me."
For Shawn, she felt like a new woman.
"They literally strip away people's core and it's a very humbling experience," the Olympic gold medalist reflected. "I learned that you can't just tune the world out and get your job done, you have to be able to balance both."
