Witney Carson’s latest tango made her lose her breath—and some of her blonde locks.
Indeed, the Dancing with the Stars pro revealed that she lost a clump of hair while practicing a routine with her partner Robert Irwin for the show’s upcoming season 34 finale.
“Well, this happened…and yes, that’s my real hair,” Witney, 32, wrote on her now-expired Instagram Stories post on Nov. 21, per Us Weekly. “[It] ripped out of my scalp. Blood, sweat and hair into this freestyle.”
In the photo, the dancer—who shares sons Kevin, 4, and Jet, 2, with husband Carson McAllister—laughed as she held up her lost strands of hair. Meanwhile, Robert, 21, and several other dancers stood next to her in shock. But despite the accident, Witney noted that she’s “so excited” to perform the choreography.
After all, this routine will be her and Robert’s last waltz on the ballroom floor. In DWTS’ Nov. 25 finale, the duo will perform a freestyle dance to a mash-up of “Black and Gold” by Sam Sparro and Avicii’s “The Nights.” Then, as part of the Judges’ Choice segment, they’re set to do a quickstep to Jett’s “Are You Gonna Be My Girl.”
Witney and Robert landed in the final five in the show’s Nov. 13 semi-finals, when they received a perfect score for their jive to Prince’s “Baby I’m A Star.” (Whitney Leavitt and Mark Ballas were eliminated from the ballroom that evening.) Then, the week prior, the duo performed a flawless foxtrot that doubled as a tribute to Robert’s late dad Steve Irwin.
And as they’re preparing to potentially take home the Mirrorball trophy, Robert—whose sister Bindi Irwin took home the title during season 21—is reflecting on his growing bond with his dance partner.
“I instantly felt so protected. Witney’s become like an older sister so quickly,” the wildlife conservationist said on the Viall Files in October. “All of my confidence comes from Witney. It comes from leaning on the experience that we have in rehearsals, trusting your body, trusting the process, trusting your partner.”
And according to Robert, he’s fully embraced this “trust fall.”
“I’ve never done anything like this, but I’ve got the best ever to guide me through this process,” he continued. “So, I’m just like full trust, all in, send it. I don’t even care. I’m just going to give it every ounce of what I’ve got and hope for the best.”
