Kristen Bell and Dax Shepard's kids aren’t running away from their movie opinions.
Especially when it’s their parents' movies. Dax revealed that their daughters Lincoln, 12, and Delta, 10, saw their 2012 movie Hit & Run, and revealing how the duo felt about their parents' characters breaking up.
"They were very upset," the Idiocracy star said on the Nov. 25 episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live! while sitting beside Kristen, "and what made me so happy is they were mad at Mom, not me. They thought Mom was a b---h. They thought Daddy was a good boy with a bad past, and she should be able to overlook that, and I agree."
Despite disagreeing with their mom’s onscreen decision-making—though luckily her and Dax’s character do reconcile—ultimately, Lincoln and Delta enjoyed the movie.
"We spent we spent all this time making this independent film and Daddy wrote it and directed it and they were like, 'We want to see it,'” Dax explained. “And we hadn't watched it in forever. We like, 'OK, let's watch it with you.' They loved it. It's very inappropriate. And it was a great litmus test for our children."
Much like their characters in the movie, Dax and Kristen, 45—who have been married since 2013—went through their own rocky period years before the movie came out, with them previously detailing how had briefly broken up about three months after they began dating in 2007.
"I already knew that I was in love with him, and he was hesitant because he knew he was still dating other people," the Nobody Wants This actress told PopSugar in 2017. "He sat me down and said, 'I can't have this right now. I think you're wonderful, but I am still dating other people.'"
Four days later, Dax had a change of heart.
"He called me and he was like, 'I don't know what I was thinking. I was dating someone else but they're just not as interesting as you, and I don't know what I'm doing,' and he came back," Kristen explained. "But I still always remind him of when he broke up with me."
And after all these years, the pair have been committed to putting in the work on their relationship.
"I don't like the idea that you're looking for your perfect puzzle piece because you also have to become a puzzle piece that fits with someone else," Kristen said on SiriusXM's Andy Cohen Live on Oct. 23. "So if you find two people that are like, 'Yeah, we're going to make this work and that means we're going to compromise constantly and those compromises should work well for both of us.'"
"And sometimes it's going to ebb and sometimes it's going to flow, but we're not going to have checks and balances," the Veronica Mars alum continued, "because we're going to realize it's not me against you, it's us against the world.'"
