Scarlett Johansson and Colin Jost’s baby name was written in the stars—so they didn’t want worldly opinions.
The Nanny Diaries actress recently shared that she and the Saturday Night Live star purposefully did not share the name of their now 4-year-old son Cosmo because they didn’t want negative feedback.
“I didn’t want any of the weird face,” she explained to Jenna Bush Hager during a recent episode of Today. “You know when you tell somebody and they go like this, ‘Oh, that’s different.’”
As Scarlett mimed a surprised face, she joked, “What’s happening there? I don’t like it.”
For Scarlett—who also shares daughter Rose, 11, with ex Romain Dauriac—she couldn’t handle the negative feedback while pregnant.
“If you’re carrying, you’re like, ‘I’m not here for it,’” Scarlett continued. “I don’t want any of your opinions.”
Luckily, Scarlett did not have to fear her mom Melanie Sloan’s reaction.
“My mom loved it, which was like, ‘phew,’” she explained. “She was like, ‘Oh my third grade crush was named Cosmo.’ It had a great meaning for her.”
However, the couple had less luck with Colin’s mom Kerry Kelly.
“A few days after she goes, ‘Cosimo is a name I can find,’” Scarlett recalled. “That’s a recognizable name. I was like, ‘We’re not just gonna insert an ‘I,’ this is what it is.’”
This isn’t the first time Scarlett shared insight into raising kids with Colin. During another co-hosting stint on Jenna & Friends, where Colin also joined, the Jojo Rabbit star and her husband cheekily argued over who is the better bedtime story reader.
“I would say me,” Colin joked during their appearance in January. “You know how actors sometimes do a whole acting thing and they tend to sort of make it all about them? I’m not naming names, but just actors in general.”
As he put it, “I feel like I let the literature shine.”
Meanwhile, Scarlett assured the kids “want the mama’s touch,” adding, “I’m winning.”
