Carrie Underwood's bleach blonde hair is carved into our minds.
However, the country singer has returned to her roots—literally.
While Carrie shared earlier this year that she was embracing her natural hair color, she recently debuted her darkest waves yet. In her Dec. 12 selfie, she revealed the warm-toned brunette color with highlights, but no sign of her previous bleached blonde style.
The color, which complements her dark brown eyebrows and brown eyes, makes for a totally new look for the "Before He Cheats" singer.
In fact, for some fans she resembled a completely different person, as one user wrote in the comments, "Didn’t even look like Carrie," while another questioned, "Is this Carrie? Doesn't look like her."
However, her fans still shared their love for the Grammy winner's new look, even if it isn't the hair they know from her American Idol days.
"Natural beauty is where it’s at," another user wrote. "So pretty always."
Carrie's first experimentation with a return to her natural colors was in August, when she shared a look at her still blonde, but unbleached hair color in a post-hair appointment selfie and wrote, "The last time I saw my natural hair color, I was probably about 12 years old."
At the time, Miranda Lambert shared her compliments, writing, "I love it," while Cameron Candace Bure wrote, "So pretty!!!!!"
Carrie continued to add that she "thought it might be time to give it a second chance," and it appears she hasn't looked back since.
However, hair color hasn't been the only change for the 42-year-old this year.
Carrie—who shares sons Isaiah, 10, and Jacob, 6, with former NFL player Mike Fisher—returned to the competition series where she got her start. But this time, as a judge. And she's remained strong in her technique now that she’s on the other side of the judges’ table.
“We just want everybody to be able to grow and get better” she told SiriusXM’s The Highway in September, “and be the most awesome version of themselves that they could be.”
