Selena Gomez is killing ‘em with kindness and honesty.
Indeed, the Rare Beauty founder addressed speculation about her voice after fans noticed that her tone has changed.
“I’ve gotten this question a few times. Sometimes, when I’m on…nevermind, there’s no excuse,” Selena, 33, explained while on Instagram Live Dec. 16. “I don’t really care. I think my point is that things happen. My throat kind of swells on the inside sometimes. That’s all.”
This isn’t the first time the “Bluest Fame” singer has detailed how her medications, both to help manage her lupus and bipolar disorder, has affected her body over the years. And as Selena continues to shine a light on her condition, she’s grateful that her supporters are also looking out for her.
“I’m glad you’re being real with me on the Live,” she continued in the session. “I appreciate it.”
In fact, the Revival singer—who married to Benny Blanco in the fall—has also found lighthearted humor in discussing her fans’ concerns about her well-being. One day before her revelation on Live, Selena had a heart-to-heart conversation about her skin health.
“Someone made me laugh because they asked me, ‘How do you shave your mustache?’ It’s actually not! It’s my melasma,” she said in a video shared on her Instagram Stories Dec. 16. “I take care of it and treat it, but yeah no, it’s there.”
The Only Murders in the Building star noted that she “totally” understood the comment, as melasma—a common skin condition—causes slightly dark patches that sometimes mimic a shadow. This discoloration is often triggered by sun exposure, which she revealed was the cause of her diagnosis.
“I actually have melasma and a pimple,” she explained in the clip, zooming the camera close to her upper lip. “It’s actually from the sun, so you’ll have to obviously wear sunscreen and be careful.”
