Matthew Koma instantly knew Hilary Duff was the one.
On the couple’s sixth wedding anniversary on Dec. 21, the Winnetka Bowling League singer shared a screenshot of a calendar event from his first meeting with the Lizzie McGuire alum.
The event was titled “Hilary Duff Meeting” and took place on Jan. 21, 2015, at a local coffee shop in Los Angeles. Matthew posted the screenshot from the fateful encounter to his Instagram Stories Dec. 21, tagging Hilary and writing, “The meeting went well!”
The 38-year-old also shared a look at an email he sent to a friend that same day when the friend asked if Hilary was “cool.” Matthew responded, “I wanna get marriedb [sic].”
He also posted a loving tribute to his wife—with whom he shares kids Banks, 7, Mae, 4, and Townes, 19 months—joking about how many people doubted their relationship at first.
“6 years my wifey. And they said we wouldn't make it,” he posted to Instagram Stories. “Literally everyone said ‘they won't make it.’ OK just that guy in the Just Jared comment section but f--k him we're crushing.”
Matthew then compared being married to the “Mature” singer to “eating Taco Bell in the late 9O’s.”
“I never know which you I'm gonna get but it's largely the same ingredients and the euphoria outweighs the tummy discomfort,” he joked. “And you always look cool and I get really excited when someone says ‘we're going to get a Meximelt.’”
Matthew ended the message telling Hilary he loved her and giving a quick play-by-play of their children “screaming at each other,” adding that Mae “just ripped a Ken dolls head off.”
And despite the unconventional comparison, Hilary was touched, sharing the post to her own Instagram Stories and writing, “It's so hot being compared to Taco Bell. He always gets the assignment.”
Over the years, Hilary—who is also mom to son Luca, 13, with ex Mike Comrie—has shared how well she and Matthew complement each other.
“He has this really amazing way of looking at the big picture where I'm very much like, right-here-right-now,” she told People in 2021, “and he zooms out."
According to the 38-year-old, the two dated off and on after their first meeting before deciding that they wanted to stay together for the long run.
“We knew we just had to be together because we tried a bunch of times to be apart,” she added, “and that didn't work out for either one of us.”
