Someone decided to create a holiday that revolves around hugging a pet that is notoriously known for not being big believers in PDA. Some would call that kind of stupid, but we like to think it's a brilliant idea, because who doesn't love to look at photo after photo of cats outwardly loathing their owners?

What a glorious holiday.

Today is Hug Your Cat Day, and while our feline overlords certainly show how much they love us in different ways, we can all agree that on average, a cat doesn't want to be hugged tightly and certainly not long enough for a selfie.

The evidence? The hundreds and hundreds of pictures on social media tagged #hugyourcatday that feature people with their pets either struggling to get away or giving more side-eye than Prince did at the 2015 Grammys.

For every photo of a cuddly kitten sleeping peacefully in its owners arms there are at least 20 Instagram shots that depict the exact opposite of that. Let's face it, cats would hate this holiday if they knew it existed.

Now go give your cat a big, squeeze because even though they think they hate it and want us dead immediately after the hug ends, deep down they really love that we took the time to remind them how much we love them.

(Just kidding. Deep down they still hate it. But too bad. We're going to hug them anyway.)
