The famous Coachella music festival is still months away, but we've got some big news coming out of the big apple. ‘Chella fans can soon say goodbye to the dessert and hello to the city that never sleeps! (Too many NYC clichés? Maybe).
AEG Live, the entertainment company behind Coachella, are talking to city officials about bringing the festival to Flushing Meadows Corona Park in Queens, according to a report from NY Daily News.
So die-hards fans of the Palm Springs Coachella could keep the party going after its April dates and head to New York in June for what is tentatively titled the Panorama Festival.
However, this isn't happy news for everyone. Founders Entertainment, the group that puts on the Governors Ball, is a bit nervous about the timing of AEG's festival. It's schedule to take place two weeks after the Governors Ball, and they're worried that the rumored Panorama festival would draw fans and acts away from their event.
"The timing of this corporate-run festival would threaten our ability as a small business to continue putting on the kind of event that has showcased the best artists, created hundreds of local jobs and put millions of dollars back into the city's economy," Tom Russell, President of Founders told NY Daily News.
Coachella is such a hit on the West Coast it is kind of a no–brainer to try and bring it to New York. The festival attracts 200,000 fans and has had headliners such as Paul McCartney, Kanye West and AC/DC.
If the Panorama festivals actually pans out it will be the largest event held in Flushing Meadows since the 1964 World's Fair. Our prediction is Yeezy and HOV in Queens. But maybe that's just our empire state of mind.
