Not even Ryan Reynolds was immune to going to great lengths to impress his high school crush.

During Eddie Bauer and American Forests 50 millionth tree-planting ceremony in Lake Arrowhead, Calif., the actor opened up to E! News about how he first became involved in conservation efforts and why his outlook on the environment has changed since becoming a father.

"My high school crush entered an environmental awareness program in the tenth grade so like any idiot young boy I followed her there, and yeah the result was that I got a kind of awareness about our environment and its fragility and those sorts of things," he told us before adding that he "left basically a different person. That program transformed me."

And when asked if his daughter James has shifted his perspective of the ongoing environmental crises, he dished, "Especially when you have kids, and I think a lot of person can relate to that, you suddenly start to go, 'What's going to be left for you? What's going to be here for you?'"

The 39-year-old continued, "If my legacy could be one thing it would be something in the spectrum of preservation or ecology for sure. I do everything that I can to make sure that my daughter has a wilderness to run around in."

Reynolds may have been given the honor of planting the 50 millionth tree for Eddie Bauer and American Forests' big event this morning, but this isn't exactly the first time the actor has flexed his green thumb.

"I've planted lots of trees before, that [this] is the first time I've used professional tree-planting equipment. Eddie Bauer and the American Forests have done so much to conserve the environment and I think it's in everyone's interests to do that." Amen!
