Amazon; HBO; NBC; FXThere's something you may have missed so far at the 2016 Emmy Awards...
We know Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Jeffrey Tambor took home the trophies in the lead category for a comedy series, and Kate McKinnon and Louie Anderson won for their supporting roles. But while they might all seem very different—and they are!—they do have one thing in common (other than comedy)...
Each one of these stars played female characters.
Yes, Anderson won for playing Zach Galifianakis' mom Mrs. Baskets in Baskets, and Tambor won for playing Maura Pferfferman, a transgender woman who came out to her family later in life, in Transparent.
McKinnon took home the trophy for her various supporting roles on Saturday Night Live!, and Dreyfus made history by taking home her fifth leading actress Emmy for her role as Selina Meyer on Veep.
But she wasn't the only one making history. At a time in history during which women continue fighting for equality, each one of these actors and actresses proved the power and importance of leading females—not only in Hollywood, but in the world.
Congratulations again to all the winners!
