The star of stage and screen's career kicked off in the 1945 Broadway production of Oklahoma! and she went on to cofound the Screen Actors Guild Ethnic Minority Committee. She died Jan. 5 of heart disease at 86.

James Avery
The veteran character and voice-over actor, best known for playing Will Smith's uncle on The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, died Dec. 31 (it was almost 2014) after suffering complications following open-heart surgery. He was 68.
