Manicure Your Nails
The best way to start with the white/lace nail appication is with a manicure. Clean, trim and file your nails down to the length and shape that you like, keeping in mind that any length is fine with this type of look.
White Lace Manicure
"One of the hottest trends we'll see everywhere in 2014 is white," celebrity manicurist Tom Bachik told E! News. Check out his tips on how to spruce up your nails with white nail polish and lace!
Tom's Tips for Glittery Nail Maintenance
Tom's secret to keeping nails glittering through even the most grueling awards show season is simple: Refresh your mani every couple of days with a clear top coat, and you'll never worry about a chip. Then, find a favorite cuticle oil and use it nightly to avoid dry cuticles too.
Pick out Your Lace
When cutting out the lace pattern, make sure that it's in the shape that you want for each nail. How much lace you want to use on your nails is up to you--it can go on the whole nail or just over parts of the nail.
Black Lace Works Best
You can choose any color lace you want for your nails, but Tom advises to go with black. "Black lace shows best and gives an edgy punk couture look," he said.
One Nail at a Time
Now, you're ready to apply more white polish and your first piece of lace. Start with one nail and apply a thick top coat of white polish. While that's still wet, apply the piece of lace you cut for that nail into the top coat. Then, do the same thing to your other nine nails.
Applying the Lace
Be sure to have 6 to 12 inches of lace ready to use, so that there's plenty of pattern for all 10 of your nails. Those pieces of lace shouldn't be too thick or packed with detail either--that can make it difficult to see the lace when it's cut into small pieces.
