The Mother's Big Reveal Outfit

Leading up to the CBS sitcom's series finale, E! News chatted with Reiko Kurumada, HIMYM's lead stylist, about 12 of the show's most iconic style moments.

"Well, I literally had an hour to find this crazy important ensemble!!" Kurumada recalled. "Her character was so top secret—they literally told me who she was about two hours before we were shooting her scene. I called Cristin Milioti, got her sizes, spoke briefly to [creators] Craig Thomas and Carter Bays about what their vision was for her, and headed out to shop! We all wanted her to have cool shoes, because our director, Pam Fryman, was starting the shot on her feet walking. We also wanted her in a timeless sun dress, so I found the vintage brown boots she is wearing in this scene at Wasteland on Melrose, and her sundress at Anthropology! We fit her and she was on set—and all this happened in under two hours!"

Barney's Ducky Tie

"The ducky tie came about by Craig Thomas and Carter Bays, our creators," Kurumada said. "They came to me and said, 'We have to find a funny tie with duckies all over it that Neil has to wear for a whole season!' We narrowed down our finds to about six and let Craig and Carter choose which one they liked the best!"

Ted's Red Cowboy Boots

"The red cowboy boots were found at a cowboy store in Topanga Canyon," Kurumada admitted. "We have purchased a few over the years because we needed multiples—remember when we burned a pair?" Who could forget that?! Jeanette fire-fueled rage was indeed a sad, sad day in HIMYM's history. And we don't care what anyone says, Ted totally pulled those boots off.

Robin Sparkles in "Let's Go to the Mall"

"The idea was to emulate Tiffany, very 80's—because the 80's didn't hit Canada until the 90's," the wardrobe guru spilled. "We had so much fun vintage shopping for old turquoise cowboy boots and acid washed denim. The majority of the clothing and jewelry was pulled from Universal Costume house, with pieces mixed in from American Apparel and other costume houses." Don't forget your jelly bracelets and your cool graffiti coat!

Marshall's "Sandwich" Loving College Look

"Teenage Marshall basically wore old rugby's and polo shirts—very Midwest and comfortable," Kurumada said. "The idea was that he got all the hand me downs from his older brothers." We would like to just take this moment to tell College Marshall that we would gladly "eat a sandwich" with him while listening to "I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles)" over and over and over again.

Lily's Gorgeous Wedding Gown

"Lily's wedding dress was Monique Lhuillier," Kurumada recalled of the season two stunner. "It fit Alyson wonderfully and was a popular style for that time." Despite everything falling apart on her big day (and Scooter's desperate attempts to win her back), Lily still managed to look breathtaking in her intimate ceremony with Marshall and the gang.

Barney's Most Expensive Suit

As we all know, Barney's closet is packed with some of the most expensive and sought-after designer suits on television. So which suit suits Barney best? "Dolce and Gabbana fits Neil perfectly. They always have perfectly tailored cuts for him," Kurumada gushed. "We also love Paul Smith, Prada, Marc Jacobs...he has quite a suit collection." True! Barney would definitely give Don Draper a run for his money.

Ted's Overly-Pretentious College Look

"Ted's college look is a mix of Wesleyan logo gear and a very hippie vibe," Kurumada revealed. "We did a lot of ponchos that we found at vintage stores, mixed with tie-dye tees that we pulled from Fox wardrobe." True, Ted always did look a little hippie-ish whenever he and Karen looked things up in their encyclo-pae-dias, and gushed about their iron-on images of French playwright, Molière.

Robin's Elegant Wedding Gown

"Robin's wedding gown was such a wonderful discovery," she explained. "We reached out to Monique Lhuillier and she sent over a bunch of options for us to look at. We knew we wanted a gown that had detail on the top—not strapless—so when Cobie Smulders put this one on we knew it was perfect. The gorgeous beaded belt was the icing on the cake—elegant, classy, and timeless."

Marshall's Wedding Fedora

"The wedding fedora was pulled from Fox stock as well," the stylist explained. "It was a last minute addition that we ran and grabbed which turned out to be perfect!" Although fedoras are probably the douchiest hats that any man can wear, we have to admit that Marshall looked rather stylish on Lily's big day. And it was 100 times better than the bald spot…

Stripper Lily—AKA "Jasmine"

"Stripper Lily is over the top and colorful. We found all her ensembles at Trashy Lingerie," HIMYM's head stylist told us. "Alyson Hannigan was such a good sport. She had to dress as Stripper Lily the first time only a few months after having her first daughter—and she looked amazing!! It was always a lot of fun putting together Stripper Lily outfits!"

Barney's Sexy Silk Pajamas

"The silk PJ suit was actually cut to match a Dolce and Gabbana suit that fit him well already!" she explained. "Our wonderful tailor Madgy measured Neil, and made the silk suit to pattern the best fitting Dolce suit he had at the time. We found the fabric at ISW, a great fabric retailer."
