Sally Field
The actress is known for the often-misquoted but heartwarming Oscars speech she gave after winning the big award for Norma Rae in 1988 ("You like me, right now, you like me!" she said). However, her onstage remarks at the 2007 Emmys did not go over as well.
After winning the award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series for her role in Brothers & Sisters, the actress unleashed an anti-Iraq war rant and also used a term offensive to many religious people. FOX, which aired the ceremony that year, bleeped out part of her speech, which aired in its entirety elsewhere in the world.
Hurry up! Quiet! I have to finish talking!" she had shouted, as the audience began to applaud mid-speech. "I am proud to be one of those women and let's face it, if the mothers ruled the world, there would be no G-d-damn wars in the first place."
Katherine Heigl
Also at the 2007 Emmy Awards, the acttress was seen sitting in the audience mouthing what appeared to be the S-word after she was announced as the winner of Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series, for her role on Grey's Anatomy. This marked the actress' first Emmy win. FOX cut the moment out of its live broadcast.
Her actual speech was also awkward—the actress told the audience her mother, who is also her manager, told her she "didn't have a shot in hell of winning."
"She's a really big supporter," Heigl added. "She does love me."
Kathy Griffin
At the 2007 Creative Arts Emmy Awards, a preliminary ceremony that is televised but not live, the outspoken comedienne and actress shocked the audience and reporters watching backstage by making some eyebrow-raising comments about Jesus while accepting her first Emmy, for Outstanding Reality Program for her show Kathy Griffin: My Life on the D-List.
Following complaints by the Catholic League, Griffin's remarks were edited out of the broadcast that aired a week later.
Brad Garrett, Gary Shandling, Matthew Perry and Doris Roberts
How do you top a hot onstage kiss like the one seen between Britney Spears—Madonna (plus Christina Aguilera) at the 2003 MTV Video Music Awards? With two.
The Emmy Awards that year featured a sizzling smooch between Everybody Loves Raymond star Brad Garrett and fellow sitcom actor and comedian Gary Shandling. Also, Chandler Bing (a-Ling) himself, Matthew Perry of Friends, locked lips with Garrett's TV mom Doris Roberts forl five seconds after presenting her with the award for Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series.
"Wow," she said. "That was worth coming up here for."
Helen Mirren
The British star has always delighted audiences with her onscreen performances as well as her sassy sense of humor (and earlier this year, her twerking moves). At the 2006 Emmy Awards, she narrowly avoided a Jennifer Lawrence moment.
While beginning her acceptance speech for Lead Actress in a Miniseries or Movie for her role in HBO's Elizabeth I, she elicited some giggles and gasps when she said, "My great triumph is not falling ass over t-t as I came up those stairs."
Jon Stewart
The Daily Show host and writer dropped an F-Bomb onstage at the 2012 Emmy Awards as he and his team accepted the prize for Outstanding Variety Series for the 10th year in a row. ABC, which aired the live ceremony in the United States, muted the controversial part of his speech.
Stewart had joked about what would happen if aliens visited Earth and found all of his Emmys, saying, "They'll find a box of these and they will find out just how predictable these f--king things can be."
Kirstie Alley
At the 1991 awards show, the actress won her first Emmy, for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series for her role as Rebecca Howe in Cheers. The actress injected a little TMI into her acceptance speech, in which she paid kudos to her then-husband, Baywatch star Parker Stevenson (pictured right).
"I wanted to thank my husband Parker, the man who has given me the big one for the last eight years," she said.
