To celebrate the glorious day that pays homage to every beauty lover's favorite makeup bag resident, we've enlisted a few of E! Classic Red
Sex symbol Marilyn Monroe basically invented the timeless red lip.
Some Like It Hot
"Nowadays, the bold lip is every busy woman's (or man's) best friend. If you're going out after work or need to elevate your outfit in a pinch, the classic red lip makes a statement without too much fuss. I prefer to modernize the look with a matte lipstick or pencil, like Lorac Pro Matte Color in Ruby or Nars Velvet Lip Pencil in Cruella. "I'm usually more a fan or coral and pink lipsticks, so nude seemed a bit daunting for me. When I first put it on, I was afraid that my lips would totally blend in with the rest of me, but after a while the matte shade really grew on me. This Twiggy-inspired lip shade may become part of my regular lipstick rotation. "I'm a really big advocate of bronze beauty looks in general, (it's really easy to do and generally tough to mess up). I know it's geeky, but I grew up watching Buffy the Vampire Slayer and was always envious of Buffy's epic frosted lipstick. To update the look, I ditched the butterfly clips and chunky highlights, focusing just on copper-all-over makeup. "When I think of an exaggerated lipliner I immediately think of 1997 Jennifer Lopez—but luckily there are some fun ways to translate this look from '90s to now. The key is to lightly blend in the liner all around the lip. It creates a more natural-looking ombre color. To get a warm coco color I generously lined my lips with LA Girl Semi Permanent Auto Lipliner in Natural and coated my lips in Kat Von D Studded Kiss Lipstick in Gothica, a really deep, glittery shade that can be rocked for any occasion!" —Jenna Loomer, Branded Content Manager

"I'm obsessed with layering different lipstick shades to make my own custom hues, which is exactly what I did to achieve the vampy, so-dark-it's-nearly-black lip that I think of as the ‘Rooney Mara.' I swiped on some of Urban Decay's Sheer Shame Lipstick (a glossy berry red) as the base, before adding Maybelline's Divine Wine (a favorite of mine and Chrissy Teigen's) to deepen the color into a bold Bordeaux. Then I dabbed a straight-up black lipstick (Glam Nation's Manic Panic lipstick in Nosferatu) to kick the gothic glamour up a notch. "I chose a bold eyeliner and cat eye for this look because the lip color is so fun and playful. The color also felt a little edgy to me so I was inspired to go a little glam on my eyes. I used a nude shadow so it wouldn't compete with my eyeliner, and decided matte all over, including my lip, which I swiped with Topshop's Lipstick in Tease and glossed over with Obsessive Compolsive Cosmetics Lip Tar in Yaoi.
