Crop Tops
Time to tone up those abs! Still a hot trend for next season, crop tops took over the runways at New York Fashion Week at shows including Lela Rose, Tracy Reese, 3.1 Phillip Lim and Zimmermann.
Boyish Tailoring
Thakoon, Victoria Beckham, 3.1 Phillip Lim and Theyskens' Theory showed a number of minimalistic menswear-inspired separates for spring. "The pieces were relaxed in shape with layering away from the body. Attention to detail was key," explains Lizzy Bowring, fashion director of Stylesight, of the cool trend.
'90s Sportswear
What's old is new again! Designers including Rag & Bone, DKNY, Alexander Wang, Y-3 and Victoria Beckham showed a strong influence from the '90s era with overalls, slouchy track pants and varsity jackets. "They've taken some of the elements from this decade and moved them forward to a modern era so it feels fresh," Bowring comments.
Slick Middle-Parted Hair
A slightly greasy, fuss-free look was consistently seen on the catwalk at shows including Rag & Bone, BCBGMAXAZRIA and Suno. The '90s-inspired 'do proved to be sleek and simple for spring 2014.
Bright Tangerine Lipstick
A bold pop of vibrant tangerine lipstick added interest to the face, while eyes and skin were kept bare and minimalistic. The hot hue was seen on the runway at Rag & Bone, DKNY and Monique Lhuillier.
Sheer
Light airy fabrications made a strong statement at shows including Delpozo, Zimmermann, Jason Wu and Zac Posen. "The feeling was feminine and floaty and perfect for spring layering," Bowring tells us.
Black and White
The crisp color combination was a hit at plenty of designer shows including Carolina Herrera, Delpozo, BCBGMAXAZRIA, Jenni Kayne, Zimmermann and more.
