The Monkees
What originally started out as a TV series turned into a real-life band. The Monkees show lasted two seasons, after which the band began touring and releasing albums. At the height of "Monkeemania," in 1967, the band had sold more albums than The Beatles and Rolling Stones combined.
Jackson 5
You can thank this band for classics like, "I Want You Back," "ABC," and "I'll Be There." The Jackson 5 were one of the biggest pop music acts of the 70s and launched Michael Jackson's career.
One Direction
This British-Irish boy band placed third in the 2010 X Factor competition and consists of Niall Horan, Zayn Malik, Liam Payne, Harry Styles and Louis Tomlinson. Their debut album, Up All Night, came in at number one on the U.S. Billboard 200 chart.
98 Degrees
"Because of You," anyone?! Unlike most boy bands, 98 Degrees formed organically between Justin Leffre, Jeff Timmons and brothers Drew and Nick Lachey.
New Edition
You can thank New Edition for launching the boy band movement on the 80s and 90s, and for giving a platform to band members like Ronnie DeVoe and Bobby Brown.
Hanson
Behold: Tulsa, Oklahoma's finest in the Hanson brothers. Isaac, Taylor and Zac Hanson exploded onto the boy band scene with their 1997 hit "MMMBop" and have been releasing tunes ever since.

The Grammy Award-winning boy band has sold over 60 million albums, making them one of the most successful R&B groups of all time.
New Kids on the Block
