Mommy Harden Doubles Pleasure

Oscar winner gives birth to twins--a boy named Hudson and a girl named Julitta

When last we saw Marcia Gay Harden at February's Academy Awards, the extremely pregnant actress seemed on the verge of bursting.

Guess what--she has burst.

The Oscar-winning Pollock star has given birth to twins, her publicist announced Tuesday.

Harden, 44, and hubby Thaddaeus Scheel welcomed a boy, dubbed Hudson Harden Scheel, and a girl, Julitta Dee Harden Scheel, last Thursday in New York.

"Everyone is doing fine," reports publicist Carri McClure. "They're not getting a lot of sleep, but everyone is doing well."

The double dip delivery brings the Harden-Scheel brood's number to five: Hudson and Julitta join big sis Eulala, who was born in September 1998.

Harden and Scheel, a prop man, met on the set of The Spitfire Grill and married in 1996.

Following early success with roles in the Coen brothers' gangster film Miller's Crossing and a Tony-nominated turn in Broadway's Angels in America, Harden worked steadily in indie films and TV movies throughout the 1990s before breaking through opposite Ed Harris in 2000's Pollock, a role that earned her a Best Supporting Actress Oscar.

The Southern California native was nominated again last year for her perfomance as the timid wife in Mystic River. She also starred with Julia Roberts in 2003's Mona Lisa Smile and most recently with Gene Hackman and Ray Romano in February's Welcome to Mooseport. Her filmography also includes Casa de Los Babys (2003), Space Cowboys (2000), Meet Joe Black (1998) and Flubber (1997).

Before the birth, Harden completed work on the romantic comedy P.S. with Laura Linney and Topher Grace. The film is scheduled for release in the fall. Her first post-diaper duty role will be opposite fellow Oscar winner Chris Cooper in the indie drama Miller, which begins production later this year.
