Meghan Markle has lost a faithful friend.
The Duchess of Sussex announced the death of her dog, Guy, sharing a montage of photos and videos of her adored pet alongside her family, including husband Prince Harry and their children Prince Archie, 5, and Princess Lilibet, 3.
“If you followed me on Instagram back in the day, you saw a lot of him—and on The Tig too,” she wrote in a post on the social media platform Jan. 7, referring to her former lifestyle blog. “He was with me at Suits, when I got engaged, (and then married), when I became a mom….he was with me for everything: the quiet, the chaos, the calm, the comfort.”
The With Love, Meghan star—who wrote that she “fell in love” with Guy after adopting him from a rescue in Canada in 2015—also got candid about the depth of her grief over her late pet.
“I have cried too many tears to count,” Meghan, 43, shared. “The type of tears that make you get in the shower with the absurd hope that the running water on your face will somehow make you not feel them, or pretend they’re not there. But they are. And that’s okay too.”
She also noted that her beloved beagle will make appearances in her upcoming lifestyle series, which is set to debut on Netflix Jan. 15. In fact, Guy appears twice in the trailer for the show, once as she feeds him a treat and again at the end as she lovingly catches him snoring.
“Because many of you will now see Guy in this new series, I hope you’ll come to understand why I am so devastated by his loss,” she continued in her post. “I think you may fall a little bit in love too.”
Meghan concluded the tribute by thanking Guy for “so many years of unconditional love,” adding, “You filled my life in ways you’ll never know.”
