Watch: Joaquin Phoenix and Rooney Mara Have Rare Red Carpet Date Night at Venice Film Festival 2025

Joaquin Phoenix and Rooney Mara are walking the line red carpet.

The Oscar winner and Social Network star stepped out for a rare date night at the 2025 Venice Film Festival for the premiere of The Voice of Hind Rajab Sept. 3.

For the outing, Joaquin, 50, kept it chic in an all-black suit with matching dress shoes as he stood next to Rooney, 40, who stunned in a coordinating black, strapless mini dress and stilettos.

At one point, the Joker actor wrapped his arm around his partner's waist as the couple—who executive produced The Voice of Hind Rajab along with Brad Pitt— posed alongside the film's writer and director Kaouther Ben Hania, as well as cast members Motaz Malhees and James Wilson

And Joaquin and Rooney didn't only make waves while walking the red carpet. Following the screening of the 2025 drama—which tells the story of a 5-year-old Palestinian girl killed by the IDF during the Israeli invasion of the Gaza Strip—the audience gave the pair and the rest of the crew a 21-minute standing ovation.

Of course, helping to bring The Voice of Hind Rajab to life isn't the only way Joaquin and Rooney—who share son River, 4, and a baby whose name has not been revealed, born in 2024—have proved a winning team. The Her actor previously provided insight into how he knew their romance was extra special.

"She's the only girl I ever looked up on the internet," Joaquin told Vanity Fair in 2019, two years after the pair were first romantically linked. "We were just friends, email friends. I'd never done that. Never looked up a girl online."

And as they ventured into their parenthood journey together, Rooney expressed feeling equally grateful for being able to build a family with her partner of eight years.

"Raising our baby, River, has opened my heart to a whole new life filled with hope and more determination than ever to create a kinder and more sustainable world," the actress shared in a 2021 open letter on FarmSanctuary.org. "I feel so fortunate to be able to nurture my son in all of the ways that nature intended."
