Who says you can't have Selena Gomez's wedding hair?
The "Same Old Love" singer married Benny Blanco in Santa Barbara, Calif., Sept. 27, while wearing a halter-neck satin dress by Ralph Lauren with her shoulder-length hair in a classic, old Hollywood-esque bob styled by Renato Campora.
The hairstylist—who has partnered with Joico—provided insight into how he achieved the stunning look for Selena, which started with a back-to-back wash using Joico Defy Damage Protective Shampoo before giving her a 30-minute treatment with the Joico Defy Damage KBOND20 Power Masque.
"This powerful combination resets the hair by removing buildup and thoroughly cleansing the hair," Renato explained in a statement. "The result is hair that’s primed to absorb essential nutrients, reduce frizz, enhancing moisture, shine, strength, and protection from heat styling."
Selena's hair was then towel-dried and sectioned before he used Joico Dream Blowout Glass 72HR Frizz Fighter to ensure "long-lasting smoothness.”
Renato then used a rat-tail comb to create the deep side part in Selena's bridal look and sectioned her brunette locks into two-inch sections at the nape of her neck.
"Each section is treated with Joico JoiWhip Design Foam from roots to ends, then blow-dried with a large round brush and pinned to set and cool," he explained of his approach. "I continued this technique across the entire head to achieve a voluminous and polished base. Once cooled, the hair is noticeably shiny, bouncy, and full of life."
Next up was the actual styling portion of creating Selena's dreamy look, which involved Renato working in one-inch sections across the front of the Only Murders in the Building actress' head.
"I sprayed each section generously with Joico Heat Hero Glossing Thermal Protector for thermal protection," he shared. "Then, using a three-quarter-inch spring curling iron, I created a marcel wave pattern, pinning each curl to cool and hold its shape."
The hairstylist repeated this technique before he let the curls cool for about 20 minutes, removed the pins and gently brushed her hair to blend the waves together.
"Special attention is given to the face-framing pieces," Renato pointed out, "which are shaped to highlight and enhance the facial structure."
The final touch? A "generous mist" of Joico’s unreleased Hold Hero High Hold & Shine Boosting Finishing Spray to make sure that Selena's 'do stayed in place throughout her fairytale evening.
As he put it, "The final result: a flawless, timeless, healthy-looking Hollywood Glamour Marcel Wave Bob for a day that celebrates love, beauty, and perfection."
After Selena and Benny's nuptials, Renato gushed about working with the couple for their big day.
"It's been such a joy getting to know you," he wrote on Instagram Sept. 28. "Your kindness, strength, and the love you share with the world and with Benny are truly inspiring. Wishing you both a lifetime of happiness. Here's to love."
