This isn’t Nicole Kidman’s first rodeo.
Amid her separation from Keith Urban after 19 years of marriage, fans of the Eyes Wide Shut star have resurfaced footage of her reaction to her 2001 split from then-husband Tom Cruise.
Indeed, while appearing on The Late Show With David Letterman at the time, Nicole made it clear she was doing perfectly fine, telling the host, “Well, I can wear heels now.”
As the audience erupted in laughter and gasps over Nicole’s snide remark over her ex, who is famously 5-foot-7, she lightened up the space joking, “Now we move on.”
David Letterman, for his part, couldn’t keep the conversation going without giving Nicole credit for her remarks.
“That’s gonna cost you,” he joked. “That’s pretty funny.”
The moment is not the only lore from Nicole and Tom’s early aughts split to spark conversation. Last year, she shut down speculation that an infamous photo of her shrieking with joy was a captured still of her after finalizing her divorce proceedings with the Mission Impossible star—with whom she shares Bella Cruise, 32, and Connor Cruise, 30.
“That was not me,” Nicole clarified with a laugh to British GQ in 2024. “That was from a film; that wasn’t real life.”
Nevertheless, the Babygirl actress could have an opportunity to make the piece of fiction a reality amid her divorce from the country music star, as she officially filed for divorce Sept. 30, according to documents obtained by E! News.
Nicole and Keith—who share daughters Sunday Rose, 17, and Faith Margaret, 14—have been “living separately” since the beginning of the summer, E! News also learned late last month. In her divorce filing, the Big Little Lies actress requested to be the “primary residential parent” of the former couple’s daughters.
Elsewhere in her filing, Nicole requested an “absolute divorce” from her estranged husband, whom she married in 2006, noting both she and Keith should be “restored to all of the rights and privileges of an unmarried person.”
Aside from legal proceedings, Nicole has remained mum amid the breakup. For his part, Keith recently performed a subtle lyric swap during a performance of “The Fighter,” a 2016 song dedicated to his past romance with The Perfect Couple star.
Indeed, rather than calling out his “baby” to be their “fighter,” in a recent performance of the song, he paid homage to touring guitarist Maggie Baugh, singing, “When they're tryna get to you, Maggie, I'll be your guitar player.”
