Watch: How Beyoncé’s Daughter Rumi Carter Feels About Joining Cowboy Carter Tour

Rumi Carter is feeling her power on stage.

The 7-year-old has stolen the spotlight throughout Beyoncé’s Cowboy Carter tour expressing her enthusiasm as she’s joined her mom and sister Blue Ivy Carter, 13, on stage during “Protector.” And her grandmother Tina Knowles recently revealed Rumi’s mentality during her show-stopping moment.

“You know my granddaughter Rumi told me, I said, ‘How do you feel when you wave and everybody screams,” Tina, 71, revealed during May 19 stop of her Matriarch book tour in Brooklyn, New York. “She said, ‘It feels powerful.’ I was like, ‘Oh. I see what you mean.’”

Tina and Rumi had a moment of their own during a recent stop on the tour. Beyoncé—who also shares Sir Carter, 7, with Jay-Z—called her mother on stage alongside Rumi and Blue and gave her a special shoutout for her memoir reaching No. 1 on the New York Times bestsellers list.

However, while the “16 Carriages” singer was in the middle of her speech during the May 1 stop in Los Angeles, Rumi could be seen reaching up towards her mother and quickly being stopped by Tina before she stood by her sister. While it appeared to be a moment of scolding, Tina set the record straight about what really happened.

“It was real, it was real life. Grandmas don’t play,” she quipped during her tour stop in Brooklyn. “No, it really wasn’t that. It was just that she was reaching for the mic because she wanted to say something, and I realized that. But she was pulling, and I was like ‘Oh God, that’s all that needs to happen is that the mic hits her in the face, and they say ‘Oh, Beyonce hit her in the face.’”

For Tina, the chance to share the stage with her girls was beautiful.

"I got to be on there with her, and Blue and Rumi that made it special,” she said. “It was from a different perspective. I mean I’m usually behind the stage. But it was actually fun, it was exciting.”

Tina has a special bond with all her grandkids but was especially proud of Rumi for following in her sister’s footsteps—Blue is a dancer on her mom’s tour—and taking the stage each night.

“Oh, I'm so proud of Rumi,” Tina told E! News in April. “All of my grandchildren, all of them are amazing.”
