Lewis Hamilton’s beloved companion has finished his earthly race.

The Formula One driver shared his English bulldog Roscoe has died after being in a coma for the last few days. He was 12.

“After four days on life support, fighting with every bit of strength he had, I had to make the hardest decision of my life and say goodbye to Roscoe,” Lewis, 40, wrote alongside a carousel of photos of him and Roscoe in a Sept. 29 Instagram post. “He never stopped fighting, right until the very end. I feel so grateful and honoured to have shared my life with such a beautiful soul, an angel and true friend.”

Roscoe’s death came five years after Lewis’ other English bulldog Coco died, after suffering a heart attack. While reflecting on having Roscoe by his side for all these years, even as he mourned Coco’s sudden passing, he shared insight into how devastating it was to have to take him off life support.

“Bringing Roscoe into my life was the best decision I ever made, and I will forever cherish the memories we created together,” he wrote. “Although I lost Coco, I have never been faced with putting a dog to sleep before, though I know my mum and many close friends have. It is one of the most painful experiences and I feel a deep connection to everyone who has gone through the loss of a beloved pet.”

He continued, “Although it was so hard, having him was one of the most beautiful parts of life, to love so deeply and to be loved in return.”

The F1 alum signed off by detailing Roscoe’s last moments.

“Thank you all for the love and support you’ve shown Roscoe over the years,” he said. “It has been so special to witness and feel. He died on Sunday evening, 28th September in my arms.”

Lewis—who also announced the news of Roscoe’s death on X—followed up by noting on Sept. 29, “He’s with Coco now.”

As Roscoe was by Lewis’ side throughout the last chapter in his career, the official Formula One organization mourned the pup, whom they dubbed “a star in his own right.”

“Lewis Hamilton’s beloved Roscoe brought smile to the paddock and warmed the hearts of fans all over the world,” the Sept. 29 post onX  read. “Our thoughts are with Lewis during this difficult time. Rest easy Roscoe, from paddock pup to Douge icon, thank you for the pawprints you left on all of our hearts.”

The news of Roscoe’s death comes just days after Lewis shared that he was in the hospital in coma battling pneumonia.

“Roscoe caught pneumonia again and was struggling to breathe,” Lewis wrote alongside a heartbreaking photo of Roscoe hooked up to a machine in the hospital as he kissed him. “He was admitted into hospital and sedated to calm him while they did checks on him and during the process his heart stopped. They managed to get a heartbeat back and now he’s in a coma.”

After being adopted by Lewis in 2013, Roscoe became a staple in the Formula One world as he appeared alongside Lewis on the track after wins and in the exclusive F1 paddock. Lewis previously gushed about his exceptional behavior and love of the finer things.

“He is the kindest, such a sweetheart,” Lewis told Vogue in August. “Anyone can approach him from anywhere. He has never attacked anyone ever. He’s super, super easy. He doesn’t go crazy around other dogs. He’s just probably the most mellow dog there is, really, until he sees a bowling ball or football.”

“He likes fancy, fancy sneakers,” Lewis added. “He picks up my Dior trainers and always takes them with him. He’s so bougie.”
