Nicole Kidman’s favorite role? Being the ultimate supportive mom.
The Oscar-winning actress—who shares Bella Kidman Cruise, 32, and Connor Cruise, 30, with ex-husband Tom Cruise as well as Sunday Rose Kidman Urban, 17, and Faith Margaret Kidman Urban, 14, with estranged husband Keith Urban—has always cheered on her kids’ endeavors, including Sunday’s recent foray into the modeling world.
“I was like, ‘You got this baby,’” Nicole told E! News last October. “I'm trying to give her her own space. [Not be] overbearing or dominant in any way.”
Sunday’s interest in the arts was evident long before she made her runway debut. In fact, years earlier, Nicole revealed that her daughter had caught the acting bug.
“My daughter just got cast in her school play,” she told E! News in January 2017, “so that's been the main priority, learning lines with her.”
Sunday isn’t the only member of the family to follow in Nicole’s footsteps. After all, she and Faith both flexed their acting skills when they made a joint cameo in one of their mom’s most notable projects.
“They were in as extras in Big Little Lies,” Nicole shared on The Ellen DeGeneres Show in 2018, “which I've never told anyone.”
And Nicole has also been by her daughters’ sides during this difficult chapter for their family. E! News learned Sept. 29 that Keith and Nicole have been living apart for months, with Keith moving out of the family home and into his own place in Nashville earlier this year.
As for Nicole's older children, they’ve largely avoided the public eye since their parents’ 2001 divorce. While Bella and Connor have offered occasional glimpses at their lives on social media, they’ve rarely been photographed with their mom—and she’s made it a point to respect their wish to remain out of the spotlight.
“I'm very private about all that,” Nicole said in a 2018 interview with Australia’s Who magazine. “I have to protect all those relationships.”
Nicole’s protective stance extends to Bella and Connor’s decision to practice Scientology, which their dad has steadfastly observed for decades.
“They are able to make their own decisions,” the actress continued. “They have made choices to be Scientologists and as a mother, it’s my job to love them.”
And the feeling appears to be mutual.
“I love my mum,” Connor told Woman's Day in 2014. “I don't care what people say, I know that me and Mum are solid. I love her a lot.”
