Nicole Kidman is formally starting her new chapter.
One day after news broke that the Oscar winner and Keith Urban were separated, E! News can confirm Nicole has filed for divorce.
However, while confirmation of their breakup after 19 years of marriage only just recently came to light, Nicole and Keith—who share daughters Sunday Rose, 17, and Faith Margaret, 14—had been living separately "since the beginning of summer," E! previously learned.
Ahead of their breakup, the Big Little Lies actress marked what would be their last relationship milestone, celebrating their 19th wedding anniversary with a cozy photo, captioning her Instagram post, "Happy Anniversary Baby."
Earlier this summer, Nicole, 58, had applied for residency in Portugal. Although Keith, 57, wasn't listed on the July form, a source with knowledge of the situation explained to E! that his absence was simply due to his touring schedule.
"It is mandatory for applicants to be physically present in order to apply for the visa," the source noted. "He is scheduled to submit his application at a later date that works with his tour schedule."
While the couple had been planning to say "Olá" to Europe, their roots were staying deep in Tennessee. As the source noted, "While Nicole and Keith own a home in Portugal, their primary residence will continue to be in Nashville."
Indeed, Nicole—also mom to Isabella Cruise, 32, and Connor Cruise, 30, with ex Tom Cruise—previously credited their home life for the strong foundation of their relationship.
"Real love happens not when everything is going well but when things are going badly," she explained to People in 2019. "It's when human beings come together, if they're going to, in a far deeper way. You're then having to work together, and the 'together' is what it's about."
But that doesn't mean it was easy, either. In fact, Keith's past battle with addiction became a barrier in their relationship.
"We got married in June 2006," Keith said in a speech honoring Nicole at the 49th AFI Life Achievement Award Gala in April 2024, according to People, "and barely four months into our marriage, my addictions… that I'd done really nothing about, blew our marriage to smithereens.
"I had no idea what was going to happen to us… and if you want to see what love in action really looks like, give that a whirl," he continued. "Nic pushed through every negative voice, I'm sure even some of her own and she chose love. And here we are tonight, 18 years later."
