He's Just Fine, Thank You
We ladies know the drill postbreakup: Looking good is the best revenge, and there's often a hair switchup in there too. At the Cosmopolis NYC premiere, Robert Pattinson (man about town) shows it also works for guys, turning up faultlessly attired in blue Gucci, with darker shirt and black tie making a cool receding-V effect, and a fresh off-the-face hairstyle that made us almost not notice the neck scruff. That nitpick aside, very well done, sir.
Sad Men
Jon Hamm, there's retro, and then there's looking like you just came off a three-day bender in the 1930s. No, you don't have to be Don Draper-dapper all the time; and it was fine to be less than formal at The Campaign's NYC premiere since you aren't starring in it. But there are degrees! A little lot of ironing, a tucked-in shirt and a shave, and you'd have been fine, really. It takes so little for you!
The Mind Boggles
Let's speculate. One day Kevin McHale spied some (glow-in-the-dark?) jellyfish pants in his favorite novelty shop and exclaimed, "Why! The very thing, should I ever host an awards show!" Or: The label approached with, "We'd be honored if you'd wear this from our Spring 2012 SpongeBob SquarePants men's collection." Or: He had them made to order, specifying that one jellyfish should peek out from the zipper. For whatever unpleasant thoughts that evokes.
Fedorable
How appealing is Martin Freeman at Comic-Con in his powder-blue jacket with jaunty matching fedora? Sadly, we can't condone the sandals (officially. Unofficially we find Martin adorable in anything no matter how ugly.). Could be that (A) after the lengthy Hobbit shoot he's not reaccustomed to actual shoe-wearing, or (B) to remind the more rabid fans that he's not really Bilbo Baggins, he's keeping his (presumably) normal, unfurry toes on view.
To V or Not to V?
The deep-V-neck-over-bare-chest look has never grabbed us, but we admit Joshua Jackson is pulling it off better than others have, with a minimum of cheese. Maybe he was inspired by girlfriend Diane Kruger's exposed cleavage at the Farewell, My Queen NYC premiere? What does crease our brow, though, is the Rag & Bone Ellington tux. Does denim-on-denim not count as such if it's tailored into a suit now? Let's hope it's not the start of some trend in "formal denim."
Best-Dressed Stripper Ever
Looks like Channing Tatum decided to make up for spending so much of Magic Mike unclothed by dressing to absolute perfection at the film's London premiere. This Armani three-piece in a charcoal windowpane plaid wool is gorgeously tailored, the polka-dot tie in the same tones plus pale gray shirt couldn't complement it better, and the whole classic-gentleman look suits him to a T. Turns out this guy we like so much naked has a serious knack for clothes. Ironic, isn't it?
Big Slick Richie
It's hard to know what we feel about this suit Joe Manganiello wore to the Magic Mike Hollywood premiere. A gorgeous gray—but it's so shiny. Really shiny. And maybe a little too tight. We want to fault it because of that, but it just looks too good on him. He's like a big, hunky eel. Also, his shoes are dark blue (like his tie) and that is fabulous.
Saturday Night's Alright for Menswear
Yes, Elton John's fashion excesses could take up a gallery, but this is pretty understated for him, at Richard James' show at London's (very first!) Men's Fashion Week. It's all tied together, down to the trademark popping eyewear and snazzy shoes, in a tricolor palette of...the classic Mardi Gras hues? Wasn't that over months ago? Ah well. Laissez les bon temps rouler!
Spidey Fashion Sense
Andrew Garfield goes full-on high-fashion in Paris (bien sûr!) at the Amazing Spider-Man premiere with this crimson Nicolas Ghesquière for Balenciaga suit from spring 2012. And he pulls it off—the narrow, edgy silhouette and statement color work on him. He pairs it with a blue shirt (with even more red trim peeking out) for that extra touch of Webslinger—but what better time to rock a look that melds "revered Euro fashion house" with "Marvel Comics"?
What a, er, Shame
This stylish midnight-blue suit and Michael Fassbender could have been a stunning combo at the London premiere of Prometheus—if only it fit him. The jacket's way too tight at the waist, pulling and causing creases, and the trousers are so long they're corrugating around his ankles. With London having no shortage of fine tailors, Michael, why not pop into one next time and get the thing altered for the great bod that—well, we all know by now you have?
Purple Haze
Not only does his three-piece match his wife Susan's amethyst bracelet, but Robert Downey Jr. continues the color coordination onto his face with violet-hued eyeglass lenses at The Avengers Hollywood premiere. On paper that's an awful lot of purple, but that gorgeous deep shade ("it" color of the moment) in made-to-order Gucci comes off far from flashy. RDJ's displaying the most grown-up, elegant side of himself we've seen yet...and what a splendiferous vision it is, too.
Men in Black...and White
Will Smith's still the freshest in a showy plaid Gucci tuxedo jacket at Men in Black 3's New York premiere. Wisely, he wears it not as part of the complete suit from the spring 2012 collection, which would have been a serious optical overdose of the bold check, but tones it down—and keeps to the theme—with solid black pants, shoes and long tie rather than bow-tie. It's whimsical, extroverted and user-friendly, a lot like the wearer himself.
The Game Is Afoot!
Sherlock star Benedict Cumberbatch sports his fave sequined Louis Vuitton shoes at the 2011 BAFTA TV awards. And he makes 'em work: Against a solid black suit and tie and plain white shirt, with nothing else competing, they're like gemstones in a jewelry case—the suit's even velvet to make sure the treasures really dazzle against it. Tonight is all about the sparkly shoes, make no mistake. (Well, probably being up for a couple of BAFTA awards was on his mind too...)
Mad Style
Jon Hamm not only stars as the dapper Don Draper on Mad Men, but the actor really knows how to make this Armani tuxedo and Tod's patent leather shoes look amazing at the Emmys. We're guessing he could probably wear a sleeveless tee, kilt and rubber boots and look good, but still the guy has style.
Androgynous Zone
Leather wedge boots and draped tops are so hot for fall, but we weren't expecting Lenny Kravitz to rock them in New York City. It's a bold move, plus he's tucked his leather pants into the high heels—is the music man pulling it off?!
Package Deal
Ben Affleck, still lean and lovely from The Town, gets his Gucci on at the Toronto Film Fest. His sleek gray two-button blazer is all business—the guy did direct and cowrite the movie, after all—but we gotta say the trousers are a bit too tight in the inseam. You know, Ben, when you're the one wearing the pants, they gotta fit.
Daddy Dearest
Father-to-be Javier Bardem looks calm, cool and casual in his gray Gucci and blue shirt open at the neck. And we'll just enjoy him like that, as it may not be long before we see him wearing sweats and T-shirts stained with spit-up. Savor it, people.
Going to Town
You know what we love more than Ben Affleck's creative comeback as an actor and director? The fact that he looks so damn good while he's at it. Trim and at ease, the mainman behind The Town looks fab in his tux at the Venice Film Festival.
Resident Hottie
Wentworth Miller sported a take-no-prisoners style back in his Prison Break days, but even without the body tattoo and decorative leg irons the star makes a powerful showing at the Resident Evil: Afterlife premiere in Tokyo. We welcome his low-key, sophisticated look; it's classic, cool and young. Nice to have you back, Wenty.
Tiny Tie
John Krasinski has great style, and we like this slim Prada tux on him for the most part. But we're kind of getting a Pee Wee Herman vibe off that tiny bow tie, which we're fairly sure was not his intent. But we'll say this: At least it's not red.
Rockin' the Tux
Well, look what the cat dragged in. But we mean that in a really good way, as Miss Universe cohost Bret Michaels manages to take his formal gear to cool new heights by choosing to wear it like the rock star he is. And no, we're not simply saying that because of the ever-present bandana on his head. At this point, that's a given. We are, however, impressed that he did get one to properly complement his, of course, unbuttoned shirt.
Winning Style
Will there ever come a time when Neil Patrick Harris stops doing everything so perfectly? Mmm, probably not. Sure enough, the big winner at the Creative Arts Emmys in L.A. managed to make even a traditional black-and-white tux appear new and exciting.

Killer Cuffs
If you're gonna go with the rolled-up look, obviously it's best to wear nothing at all as opposed to, say, a pair of white ribbed tube socks. Still, seeing Penn Badgley at the Target Kaleidoscopic Fashion Spectacular in NYC, we couldn't help but feel the Gossip Girl guy wasn't exactly on, well, target with this look. Next time, how about simply losing the cuffs and just let the pant legs do what they were made to do in the first place? Oh, and don't even get us started on those keys hanging off the belt loop.
Lacking Bite
Jerry O'Connell showed up at the Hollywood premiere of Piranha 3D looking as if he simply picked up this lackluster navy suit at Sears on the way there. C'mon! We get that being married to someone like Rebecca Romijn brings an added pressure when it comes to dressing to impress. But that doesn't mean you should just lie down and quit altogether. Especially for the premiere of your own movie!
