Three-Piece Outfit
The Jonas Brothers offer three fresh fashion flavors while hitting the red carpet at the Camp Rock 2 premiere in New York City. Kevin goes for a grown-up look with an open collar and blue suit (he is married, after all) while Joe rocks a printed tee under his tight two-piece. And Nick goes for full-on adorable in his taupe threads.
Blues Brother
While you might imagine Eat Pray Love style to be a hippy-happy mix of beads and sarongs, Javier Bardem offers a brilliant piece of sartorial counterprogramming with this classic blue Gucci suit and tie at the film's NYC premiere. The actor softens the formality with facial scruff and suede shoes, and frankly, it's hard not to Love it.
Shoe Business
Cory Monteith attempts a slick maneuver at the Teen Choice Awards by pairing this classic suit-and-tie look with a pair of black sneakers, and guess what? It totally works for the event. The grown-up, Sinatra-in-Vegas style of the suit makes the Glee guy look sophisticated, but the footwear reminds us that he knows what teens will choose to wear any day of the week.
Test Pattern
Like his show Fringe, Joshua Jackson is just a little hard to decode at the Teen Choice Awards. The blazer, shirt and tie combo aim for a sophisticated mix of patterns, but his skintight jeans offer up dressy—and did we mention really tight?—casual. The result is confusion, as well as the sense that his shoes look huge, but we applaud that he tried to do something different.
Close to the Vest
Remember those ab-tastic photos of Glee's Matthew Morrison in Vogue? Of course you do, which is why we're a little disappointed to see his muscly midriff all encased within this otherwise delightful vest. That said, the man brings a nice mix of gravitas and good times to the Fox TCA party with this slick gray number.
Summertime Blues
Overall, Cory Monteith looks just fine here (oh come on, he always looks fine, right?) in his breezy open shirt, but we have to take issue with the color choice of his suit. We're in the heat of August, and this dark hue hangs over him like news that school will be starting up again soon. But for him, school means more songs, more dances, more Glee! So lighten it up next time, Cor.
Banking Crisis
He may never find a suit that fits him as well as his Calvins, but Mark Wahlberg does know how to look seriously put-together. The thing is, he's at the premiere of his new comedy The Other Guys, so it wouldn't hurt to loosen the tie or to soften up the colors a bit. Being bankable doesn't mean you have to dress like a banker.
Blue Steel
Shark week never looked so gorgeous. Zac Efron greets his adoring public at the Charlie St. Cloud premiere in a shiny blue sharkskin Prada suit that oozes old-style Hollywood class. Take note, Miley: Want to know how you transform into a grown-up movie star? Dress like one.
Mad Props
Don Draper really knows how to accessorize. And while Jon Hamm surely doesn't consider Mad Men castmates Elisabeth Moss and Christina Hendricks to be sexy cufflinks, he does know that the only thing that makes a guy look better than a well-cut suit is a pair of gorgeous women nearby.
Shirt Outta Tuck
OK, we get it. You're taking this Mad Men thing in a whole 'nother direction. But here's the thing, Vincent Kartheiser: Like that Clearasil account, we're not buying it. It looks like the stylist forgot to meet you in the parking lot and you came in anyway. Should have used the back door, pal.
High Fashion
Just because Chace Crawford plays a drug dealer in the film Twelve doesn't mean he can't look relaxed with an open shirt and a spliffy spiffy midnight-blue suit.
Hell Blazer
There's casual elegance...and there's this. In this ill-fitting prep school uniform, Gossip Girl star Matthew Settle looks like his shirt is trying to escape by making a break past his shoulders. All that wrinkled khaki bunching up at his crotch doesn't flatter, either. And trust us, handsome, we don't need such eye-catching distractions; we'll be looking there anyway.
Dapper Rapper
Talk about a rapper's delight. Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson eschews the bare-chested tats and jewelry look for a more sophisticated style, and we like it. OK, the shoes we're not thrilled with, but the fact that he doesn't do the sneaky "sneakers with suit" look most dudes have tried at least once is a major victory.
Pretty Crime
With his sloppy dad outfits, slouchy hats and unruly drifter beard still fresh in our memory, Brad Pitt's back to wearing clothes that don't look like they need to be booked into evidence. The pretty man looks delicious at the Salt premiere in his Tom Ford suit and D&G aviators. Bonus points for bringing a date.
Man Overboard
We know adorable awkwardness is his shtick, but Michael Cera really went too far with the Top-Siders at the Scott Pilgrim premiere. He looks decent otherwise: the cropped hair, the junior's department suit, the tiny widdle tie, so it's hard to believe he thought a pair of deck shoes would be the right footwear. For once, we doubt this emo boy's sincerity.
Tangle and 'Stache
Funnymen Kieran Culkin and Jason Schwartzman look like the world's least effective detective team at the Scott Pilgrim premiere. While we like these guys in the movies, they hide their charms with messy hair (Culkin!) and a feral upper lip (Schwartzman). But at least it distracts us from Jason's shirt, so there's that.
Double Jested
Remember when being funny meant you didn't have to be handsome, too? Blissfully, we don't, either. Paul Rudd and Steve Carell are part of a new breed of funnymen who look great even as they crack us up. Though these handsome suits and red carpet hijinks don't make up for Dinner for Schmucks. Not one bit.
Dream Coat
No, you're not dreaming: Lovely and talented actresses Ellen Page and Marion Cotillard frame Leonardo DiCaprio at the Inception premiere. But this much is true: Mr. Windbreaker, Ball Cap & Shades got some good notes from dapper director Christopher Nolan, because he looks fantastic in this Armani suit.
Bow Jest
We hate to hate on Joseph Gordon-Levitt's gray-black getup, but it makes him look like he's bartending on the red carpet at the Inception premiere. (Don't get us wrong, we LOVE bartenders.) His tie is too tiny (a terrible trend) and the monochromatic tones, though echoing the movie's color scheme, are drab on this delightful dude.
Family of Flair
Hard to stand out in this family. But the Fresh Prince King Will Smith knows that when everyone is loud, the smart person goes quiet. And while this electric blue suit isn't exactly quiet by most people's standards, it's positively conservative when paired with anything from daughter Willow's closet.
Full Maroon
You have to be pretty confident to eschew the typical black/blue suit spectrum, and so we applaud Robert Pattinson for thinking outside of that tiny, dark box. The maroon hue of this Gucci suit could be a sly nod to his bloodthirsty vampire character, but it's also dangerously close to the color of those old-fashioned hotel bellhop outfits. Thankfully, the cut is sleek and modern and Pattz pulls it off.
Armed and Dangerous
Does the, uh, roof match the curtains? Looking like he chose the shirt to match his hair—total guy move—Kellan Lutz hides his fab physique in this constricted Calvin Klein suit. The black-and-blue hues seem more apropos for a mob flick, but if he really wanted to be a gangster, we'd suggest ripping off those sleeves and unleashing those lethal guns.
Lone Wolf
For a guy who got famous for not wearing shirts, Taylor Lautner definitely can pull off the suit and tie. Unlike most teen wolves, he's smart to pair classic style with his own youthful looks (a move that should never be reversed, by the way). We wouldn't mind him jazzing things up a bit, but he's definitely off to a good start.
After and Before
Yes, we know it's not fair. Nobody looks good compared to George Clooney, but Kid Rock could still take a few pointers and accentuate the positive (uh, his hair?) and deemphasize the bare arms, giant ring and sunglasses on the necklace. If the Kid wants to keep wearing caps, he should consider consulting with a fine hatmaker to get something that doesn't look like it got smushed down on his noggin by the schoolyard bully.
