Tony Hawk is skating through life with his grandchild.
The skateboarding superstar, whose son Riley Hawk shares son Ronin Walker Cobain Hawk, 5 months, with Frances Bean Cobain, reflected on a core memory involving Frances' late father Kurt Cobain and his band, Nirvana.
"Went straight from S.U.A.S. event at Houston skatepark to this concert in 1991," Tony wrote on his Instagram Stories Feb. 23 over a ticket stub from a Nirvana concert on Oct. 20, 1991, at The Vatican in Houston, Texas. "It was as transformative as live music can be."
"We all experienced something rare and powerful that night," the 56-year-old—who shares his son with ex-wife Cindy Dunbar—reflected. "The world would never be the same."
Tony went on to share his anguish over the fact that Kurt—who died by suicide in April 1994, just 19 months after welcoming Frances with Courtney Love—never got to meet his son-in-law or their baby boy.
"I wish Kurt were here so he could see the incredible woman his daughter has become," Tony mused, "Meet her devoted, caring husband, and hold our wondrous grandchild."
Tony's emotional reflection came just a few days after he let his fans know that he's already passing on his love of skateboarding to his grandson.
"What happens when all of your kids can skate on their own and no longer rely on you to give them rides?" the hall of famer skateboarder captioned an adorable photo of himself sitting on a skateboard while holding Ronin in his arms. "You wait until they have their own kids. Circles (wheels?) of life."
While you can see him in his grandpa's arms, Ronin's face is covered with a baby emoji to protect his privacy.
While Riley, who is a professional skateboarder like his father, tends to keep his personal life close to his chest, he has similarly hinted at sharing his love for the sport with his son early. Just a few weeks after the infant was born, the 32-year-old posted a photo to Instagram in October of Ronin wearing a Baker Skateboards onesie.
Frances and Riley announced Ronin's birth in a joint Instagram post last September, writing, "9.17.2024 Ronin Walker Cobain Hawk. Welcome to the world most beautiful son. We love you more than anything."
First-time grandfather Tony was quick to comment on the post, cheekily writing, "My favorite grandson!"
The couple welcomed their first baby together nearly a year after they tied the knot in southern California. Frances' godfather, R.E.M. frontman Michael Stipe, officiated the October 2023 nuptials.
They first started dating in 2021, and it wasn't until the following year that Frances, who was previously married to Isaiah Silva, confirmed their relationship on Instagram.
"I took a year long break from posting on Instagram which was exceptionally good for my mental, emotional & spiritual health," the model and visual artist wrote at the time. "2021 brought me more into the present moment than I've ever been, which I'm deeply grateful for. I wanted to share a few moments that were captured / created this past year that brought me a great amount of joy."
Riley was featured twice in the corresponding Instagram carousel: Once holding a dog, and once cuddling with Frances next to his father, Tony.
